*We’re sad to report that the father of our good friend George Livingston, George Livingston Sr., has passed away. Mr. Livingston Sr. – who was the first elected black mayor of Richmond, California – died after a long battle with diabetes. He was 78.
Mayor Livingston was also a friend to the entertainment community in that he presented numerous celebrities with certificates and keys to the city of Richmond over the years.
We were personally touched by the mayor’s largesse when he intervened to present our Lee Bailey and Bailey Broadcasting with a certificate to the city of Richmond in order to get our legendary RadioScope program on the air at KDIA radio in the Bay Area.
George Jr. reminded us of the time when RunDMC came to town and his dad not only gave them certificates from the City, but asked them if they wanted to used the Mayors phone to call home, which a happy Run did. Yes, that’s the kind of man Mayor Livingston was
George Livingston Sr. is survived by his wife Eunice and two children, George Jr. and Grace Livingston-Numley.
Going home services are scheduled for Tuesday (01-7-12) at 11am at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 662, So. 52nd Street, Richmond, California.
