Nominees for the 84th Academy Awards pose for a group photo at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon in Beverly Hills, Feb. 6, 2012

*Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer of “The Help” joined their fellow Oscar nominees Monday at the 84th Academy Awards Nominations Luncheon, an annual rite of passage held in Beverly Hills for those whose work has been recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

The gathering, which included Meryl Streep, George Clooney and Glenn Close, allows all of the nominees to mix and mingle with each other over lunch, take the official nominees photo (see above) and say a few words to the press – if they so choose.

Davis, glammed up in a neon pink J.C. Obando silk halter dress, reminded reporters that her award season hair and designer dress ensembles go right out the window once all the hoopla is over.

“If you guys could see me at home, in my cornrows,” said the star, nominated for best actress. “I am not a glam woman. This is definitely a mask I put on for the public. My biggest fear is that paparazzi with some lens is going to come in my backyard and see me when I get in my pool. That would be very unfortunate.”

Supporting actress nominee Spencer, in a black wrap dress, said of the Oscar Luncheon she was just happy to be “in that room with all those luminaries.”

“I hope I can be a symbol of hope for all the other actors who’ve been doing it as long as I have,” she said. “It says something about perseverance and staying in the game. I’m an Oscar nominee. Whatever happens, I’m always going to sing that Oscar nominee part.”
