On Saturday night, just hours after learning she died, he had to stand on stage in front of thousands of screaming fans.
He couldn’t help but break down in tears.
“First of all, I want to tell you that I love you all,” he told fans gathered at a nearly sold-out 7,500-seat venue in northern Mississippi. “Second, I would like to say, ‘I love you, Whitney.’ The hardest thing for me to do is to come on this stage.”
He was on stage as part of the New Edition reunion tour at the Landers Center in Southaven.
Despite the tragedy, the singer decided to go through with the performance because he wanted to show respect to his loyal NE fans.
He was able to perform, through tears and broken verses at least 10 songs before finally being overwhelmed with emotion and grief.
As the concert began to wind down, he began to wipe his face and when the song began, his voice cracked and eventually he took a moment to mourn off-stage.
The other NE singers also honored Whitney and acknowledged the legendary singer during the performance.
