*CNN commentator Roland Martin says he will meet with GLAAD following his suspension Wednesday for tweets during the Super Bowl that the group deemed homophobic.
Calling Martin’s tweets “regrettable and offensive,” CNN said Martin would “not be appearing on our air for the time being.” Martin later said on Twitter that he would meet with GLAAD, as the group had requested, after he apologized Tuesday for the Super Bowl tweets.
“I look forward to meeting with GLAAD in the near future and having a productive dialogue,” he tweeted.
The group tweeted back, “We look forward to a productive dialogue and to working together as well.”
The hubbub began Sunday with two of Martin’s tweets that GLAAD said seemed to advocate violence against gays.
“If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!” he said in one tweet. In the other, he said, “Who the hell was that New England Patriot they just showed in a head to toe pink suit? Oh, he needs a visit from #teamwhipdatass.”
Martin later apologized, saying he did not advocate violence against gays or bullying. He also said he himself had been bullied.
To signal that he took the issue seriously, Martin also reported on Wednesday about Brandon White, a 20-year-old gay man who was viciously beaten by a gang of men shouting anti-gay slurs in Atlanta.
Details of Martin’s meeting with GLAAD are still being determined, the group said.
I hope he’s meeting with them to tell them to kiss his wide, fat ass! The last time I checked, people have freedom of speech and can what the hell they want. GTFOH…I have no objections to anybody’s preference but I’ll be damned if I’ll have the shit forced down my throat. The shit is not natural and therefore, people will have something objective to say but these people have ruined people’s careers because they don’t support being gay or gay rights. Put the same damn efforts into raising money for HIV research.
I guess you didn’t see where they say, “We look forward to a productive dialogue and to working together as well.”
Roland is going there hoping “… to meeting with GLAAD in the near future and having a productive dialogue”, but them fags going to have him jumping through all kinds of hoops.
So what’s going to happen when they ask/demand more than just a “productive dialogue?”
How is he going to face is minister wife, his church, after endorsing the gay life style. So you mean it’s either that or losing his job at CNN?!
Black people need to make a stand. Let CNN know that we are not going to stand by and let them allow these people to make an ass out of Roland.
A good launch pad is the church, because it is already against the tenet of the christian faith. I’m not saying they need to necessarily come out against the gays and knock their life style. But you got to respect us if you want us to respect you. Leave us alone and we will leave you the hell alone. Roland wasn’t even messing with them, but to appease them he’s going out of his way to “admit” that he made a mistake and agreeing to meet with them. But after that, let that man go about his business.
Does he have to bend over to get off their shit list?
Good for him. I hope they can come to some common ground. And just maybe, he’ll learn something from this.
