David Ruffin Avenue Naming Ceremony Kicks Off R&B HOF Weekend in Detroit

*[Detroit, MI ] – Legendary Motown artist and Temptations’ lead singer David Ruffin best known for his vocals on “My Girl” and “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” will be honored when Parkside Street in Detroit, becomes David Ruffin Avenue.

David Ruffin’s storied musical career first came to prominence as a lead singer of Motown’s, The Temptations, of which he had much success recording numerous hit singles and albums on both the R&B and Pop charts. For his hard work he was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 as a member of The Temptations and the Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2013 as both a solo artist and Temptation.

David Ruffin lived on Parkside St. from 1970-1983 during his solo career which saw him have five Top 10 R&B singles and two Top 10 Pop hits, as well as three Top 10 R&B albums. The street renaming will take place Friday, June 21, 2019 at Parkside and West 7 Mile Road.

LaMont Robinson, Founder and CEO of the National R&B HOF had this to say:

“I, along with the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame, presented the idea to the city of Detroit. I have been a major fan of The Temptations and Mr. Ruffin since childhood. We wanted to honor this legend with a street named after him, in a city that he loved so much. It brings me great pleasure and joy to see how happy and proud his family members are of this recognition. This is a major honor that will live on and on.”
