*Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been cast in Brett Ratner’s forthcoming adaptation of Steve Moore’s graphic novel, Hercules: the Thracian Wars, reports Collider.com.

The film tells the story of Greek hero Hercules who has turned his back on the Olympian gods and can only find solace fighting in battle alongside his six companions.

The Thracian king then summons Hercules and his pals and tasks them with getting his army into proper fighting shape. Lured by the thought of gold and glory, he readily agrees, but soon comes to realize how far he’s fallen from grace and what he might need to do to find some redemption.

Also on the docket for Johnson is “GI Joe 2: Retaliation” and Michael Bay’s “Pain and Gain.” Last year he also signed on for “Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide.”

The wrestler was the first actor to be confirmed for “Hercules,” which is based on John Paul Russ’ comic book miniseries on hunting monsters, the undead and unnatural beasts.
