Union Bank Names Three New Members to Community Advisory Board

*Los Angeles, CA  – Union Bank today announced that it has named three new members to its Community Advisory Board.  The bank’s Community Advisory Board is comprised of 11 members who help guide the bank’scommitment in the areas of affordable housing, consumer loans and services, charitable giving, environmental stewardship, and other community development initiatives.  Each will serve a three-year term.

Joining the Union Bank Community Advisory Board are:  President, CEO and Founder of Korean Churches for Community Development, Hyepin Im; Program Director of The Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center, Timothy Russell; and Executive Director of West Angeles Community Development Corporation, Tunua Thrash-Ntuk.

“It is a privilege to have these new members join our Community Advisory Board to provide ideas to help direct the bank’s commitment to reinvestment in the communities that it serves,” said Union Bank Managing Director and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility Julius Robinson.  “We are pleased to have the depth of experience in community and civic affairs represented on our Community Advisory Board, which will be a real asset as the entire board helps the bank guide its investments in our communities.”

Hyepin Im

Hyepin Im serves as the President, CEO and Founder of Korean Churches for Community Development in Los Angeles, CA, a national nonprofit involved in empowering churches and nonprofits to leverage their resources by building capacity, leadership, and partnerships in economic development and serving as a bridge between the Korean/Asian American community and the greater community at large.  She also served as a U.S. Presidential Appointee on the Board of the Corporation for National and Community Service from 2009 to 2015.  Her previous positions include venture capitalist for Renaissance Capital Partners, Sponsorship Manager for California Science Center, and Senior Auditor at Ernst & Young.

Im serves on the U.S. Army Advisory Board and Southern California Leadership Network Board. Prior membership includes the Pacific Council on International Policy, the Western Partner for the Council on Foreign Relations, and L.A. County Supervisor’s Empowerment Congress.  She earned a B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California, and M.Div., summa cum laude, from Wesley Theological Seminary.

Timothy Russell serves as Program Director of The Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center headquartered in San Francisco, CA, which empowers and increases the entrepreneurial capacities of socially and economically diverse women and men, and thereby strengthen communities through the creation of sustainable new businesses, new jobs, and the promotion of financial self-sufficiency.  Russell oversees program staff, consultants, and operations in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Mateo counties.

Prior to joining Renaissance, Russell spent more than 10 years as an Executive Director of a faith-based nonprofit serving the Bay Area communities.  Previously, he served as Education Director and Dean of Students for the National Training Institute and Sequoia Institute respectively.  Russell is the lead pastor of L.I.F.T. Ministries located in Hayward, CA, and a published author.

Tunua Thrash-Ntuk serves as the Executive Director of West Angeles Community Development Corporation in Los Angeles, CA, with the mission of increasing social and economic justice, demonstrating compassion, and alleviating poverty throughout the community.  She also serves as co-chair of the Crenshaw Community Leadership Council.  Previously, Thrash-Ntuk served as Director for Green Door Advisors, Managing Director of Housing and Economic Development for West Angeles Community Development Corporation, and Director of Commercial Revitalization for a Massachusetts-based development corporation.

Thrash-Ntuk serves on the board of the Los Angeles Development Fund, is a member of the Urban Land Institute, and is former Commissioner for the Los Angeles Housing Authority.  She received an M.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.  She is also a graduate of the Ross Minority Program in Real Estate at the University of Southern California’s Lusk Center.
