*On February 18, 2012 GMC TV presents an original GMC Premiere Movie ‘A Cross to Bear,” starring Kim Fields as Joan Blackford, Danielle Deadwyler, Malinda Williams and Jackie Long. “A Cross to Bear,” airs at 7:00 p.m. EST, with encores at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
The inspirational drama also features the appearance of Angie Stone and Kenny Lattimore. Based on an original screenplay by Cas Sigers Beedles and Terri J. Vaughn, who also serve as producers along with Tandra Potts – also director, “A Cross to Bear” is about Erica (Deadwyler) a would-be dancer fighting alcoholism that gets “tough love” from Joan (Fields) at Joan’s House.
“It was so well written I just had to learn my lines,” award winning actress and director Kim Fields said about her experience working out her character. “Terri sent me an email and text (about the role), and I said OK. I…was working with Terri in a different way, as director of Tyler Perry’s ‘Meet the Browns.’”
Though Kim has established herself as a director she pointed out while on set you stayed in her lane as the actress, but believes that her directing experience allowed her to save the director time and money by doing less takes.
“When acting I trust my director,” Kim added. “I focused on the work as an actress. It’s a character I haven’t played before.”
“A Cross to Bear” is A Nina Holiday Entertainment Production. Learn more about the GMC TV presentation by logging on to www.WatchGMCTV.com.
Entertainment attorney Phaedra Parks gets deeper into reality television with ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ and ‘Toya & Tiny’
*“I worked with the show with some of their talents before they came to me,” said entertainment attorney and reality show producer Phaedra Parks about how she became a member of Bravo TV’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta” – now in its fourth season. “I wasn’t a fan of the show…it doesn’t represent the true Atlanta. But it’s a good thing I’m a professional, married with a stable life…. It can show that side.”
Parks, who joined the show in the third season, is joined by Kandi Burruss, Nene Leaks, Cynthia Bailey, Sheree Whitfield and Kim Zolciak. Phaedra is not new to reality shows as she was the producer of the BET’s highly successful reality show “Toya & Tiny.”
“Toya and Tiny reached out to me…said, ‘Are you interested in telling our story,’” Phaedra pointed out as the reason she added reality show producer to her credits. “People assume things about them…and they’re my friends.”
A managing partner of The Parks Group, a law firm based in Atlanta, Phaedra’s practice includes entertainment law, civil and criminal litigation. A member of the Grammy Recording Academy Parks is on many boards such as American Bar Association’s Advisory Board and the University of Georgia’s Donald L. Hollowell Professorship Endorsement Committee.
