Nat’l Congress of Black Women (LA Chapter) & White House Present a Community Empowerment Forum

*Los Angeles, CA – The National Congress of Black Women, Inc., Los Angeles Chapter in conjunction with President Barack Obama’s White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships is hosting a community empowerment forum on Sunday, February 26, 2012, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Second A.M.E. Church, 5500 S. Hoover Street in Los Angeles.

The public is invited to voice their concerns on critical issues plaguing our communities. Representatives from the Obama administration will be in attendance to discuss job recovery, housing and foreclosure, education, childhood obesity, environmental health, and other community concerns.

“This empowerment forum is just one way we are working to better our community. Whether fundraising for programs related to mental health or partnering with local organizations to aid in awarding scholarships, our focus has been and always will be on serving our communities and

strengthening our families. We take pride in being part of an organization that for nearly thirty years has honored its mission to better communities through educational, political, economic and cultural development of African American women and their families,” says Judy Matthews, Los Angeles Chapter Chair.

The National Congress of Black Women, Inc., Los Angeles Chapter invites all concerned citizens to come out for this special opportunity to give voice to our community. The representatives from the Obama administration who are scheduled to speak are Jovette Gadson, Program Manager, US

Housing and Urban Development; Rev. Brenda Girton-Mitchell, Director, Department of Education; Rev. E. Terri LaVelle, Director, Veterans Affairs; Jannah Scott, Th.D., Deputy Director, US Department of Homeland Security, Tyra Mariani, Chief Deputy of Staff, US Department of Education and Carnisia Proctor, Senior Program Officer, Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HIS) Division and a representative from the US Environmental Protection Agency.
