*Racist fans of “The Hunger Games” don’t bother star Amandla Stenberg at all. She’s keeping it pushing and staying focused on what she’s got to do.
Some extremely opinionated and vocal fans protested the movie was somehow off beat with a diverse cast, and were outraged that a Black girl played Rue, even though the book clearly depicts her as a Black girl.
“As a fan of the books, I feel fortunate to be part of The Hunger Games family,” Amandla, 13, told Us Weekly in a statement. “It was an amazing experience; I am proud of the film and my performance. I want to thank all of my fans and the entire Hunger Games community for their support and loyalty.”
Other cast members didn’t want to give the racial comments the time of day.
But overall, the movie was a success and that’s what Dayo Okeniyi wanted to focus on.
On March 25 he tweeted, “3rd biggest opening weekend of all time. Holy Cow! Applause to all the fans yall made this happen!!”
