*As the whole world knows by now, today, Sept. 4 is Beyonce Knowles-Carter‘s birthday. And to help her celebrate, a bunch of Bey’s famous friends (and daughter Blue Ivy), including former FLOTUS Michelle Obama, celebrated her 36th b-day by recreating one of the iconic looks from her “Formation” music video.
“Happy birthday Beyonce / From your family and friends,” read the message on her website.
What followed was nearly 18 images of women dressed in Queen Bey’s fierce outfit of an off-the-shoulder black top, extra wide-brimmed black hat covering the face, and elaborate silver chokers. Completing the look, of course, were two long black braids.
Among the famous female faces who posed to pay tribute were her daughter Blue Ivy, Mrs. Obama, Kelly Rowland, Serena Williams (who just welcomed her first child on Friday, September 1!) and Michelle Williams, among others. Her own mother, Tina Knowles Lawson, and mother-in-law, Gloria Carter, also got in on the act.

Besides wishing her a happy birthday, the message on Bey’s website also urged everyone to support Houston relief efforts. Hurricane Harvey battered Beyonce’s hometown and surrounding areas when it made landfall on August 25. According to The New York Times, the storm has claimed the lives of at least 50 people in eight counties, and has caused billions of dollars in damages.
The star launched BeyGOOD Houston to team up with her pastor Rudy Rasmus’ non-profit Bread of Life, Greater Houston Community Foundation and Texas Southern University to help with relief efforts.
Prior to the birthday message from friends and loved ones appearing on Beyonce’s website, her husband, Jay-Z, led the crowd at the Made in America Festival in Philadelphia on Sunday, September 3, in singing “Happy Birthday” to his wife nine years.
Beyonce’s friends and close family weren’t the only ones celebrating the singer’s birtday. So did her father, Mathew Knowles, who took time out to wish his daughter happy birthday, but got all choked up and sentimental in the process.
Her father, who is still based in Houston, posted a clip of a birthday message to Beyonce. Recalling the day she was born, he becomes emotional when reflecting on how proud he is of her.
“I can remember the day you were born … my first time seeing a baby born. I was actually in the room , he said as he was choking up. “This is your city (he says as he pans the camera in his phone around to the capture the Houston skyline). Your city loves you … but more importantly, I love you.”
