Rev. Sharpton Says New Videos Show Probable Cause for Zimmerman Arrest

al sharpton*Reverend Al Sharpton, who some are criticizing for being directly involved in the Trayvon Martin case – while simultaneously covering it as a journalist – for MSNBC, is now flat out calling for the arrest of Trayvon’s killer now that new videos has come to light.

He’s saying the videos meet the standard for, and show, probable cause for Zimmerman’s arrest

Below is Rev. Sharpton’s statement:

“Since the time that Attorney Ben Crump, representing the parents of Trayvon Martin, reached out to me and National Action Network (the first national civil rights group to get involved in the case), I have called for the arrest of George Zimmerman for probable cause for the killing of Trayvon Martin.

It appears from videos released (Wednesday and Thursday) that there is probable cause to also arrest him for obstruction of justice and for filing a false police report if in fact he told police he sustained a broken nose and other injuries.  From those videos and the time line on the videos, there is indication that the video was within an hour of the killing and there are no visible injuries or evidence of a broken nose. It is highly suspicious how any law enforcement personnel looking at George Zimmerman ever believed he sustained those reported injuries and that is why we reiterate that there must be a complete investigation into the Sanford Police Department.  National Action Network will continue to intensify our rallies and marches in the Sanford area around these calls.”

Reverend Al Sharpton, President of National Action Network

  1. I came across an article this morning which made me realize how important this video is in the context of racial cases and how they will be interpreted. Now this is even though I’m getting more and more doubtful whether this video will help in getting Zimmerman charged. Although this video clearly shows that Zimmerman and the authorities were involved in a cover up, these are powerful people, and they will do everything not to admit guilt.

The importance of this video is that this case won’t turn out to be another example where whitey put their spin on events and use their mass media to ram it down the throat of the rest of the world.

The article was entitled, Why Lots Of People Think The Media Is Wrong About The Trayvon Martin Case.

Now, it’s not necessarily a biased article, but it illustrated how more and more people were beginning to doubt the original story that Martin was the victim and whether in fact he viciously attacked Zimmerman. The article even tried to compare this case to the Tawana Brawley and Duke lacrosse cases, in which the media was successfully able to caste enough doubts that some people will accept as fact that neither cases involved any criminal behavior.

At this point I had to know when the article was written. March 26.
OK, before the Zimmerman arrest videos.

No, we may not see justice even after this video, but they will never be able to steal the narrative and discredit black people like Sharpton the way they were able to with the Tawana Brawley case.
But they came close. The star was aligning in their favor with the lies from Zimmerman and the police broadcasting more and more over the airwaves, along with the distorted accounts of witnesses. Then the attempts to assassinate his character using miss identified Facebook pictures, and taking his Twitter postings out of context.

Zimmerman may never be convicted, let alone charged, but Trayvon Martin’s death will not turn out to be another sad chapter where a black person was wronged, with insult added to injury, by twisting the truth and destroying his reputation.

Trayvon’s Mother: “They Killed My Son & Now They’re Trying To Kill His Reputation.”

No, not this time. But they came pretty close.
