The Grammy winner has been booked to sing the national anthem at this year’s Kentucky Derby, reports AP.

A statement released today from Churchill Downs says Blige will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Louisville track around 5:10 p.m. on May 5, shortly before the running of the 138th Kentucky Derby.

Blige has won nine Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards since her debut album “What’s the 411″ in 1992 that had two No. 1 hits: “You Remind Me” and “Real Love.”

I Hope Mary J practices a bit more thsi time around because her last outing singing the National Anthem was shaky at best. IMO Mary J is not the best vocalist BUT!!! she has been around for twenty years or so and she is hanging in there so my hats off to her.

They need to play a recording of Whitney Houston singing it and call it a day. THAT is the standard, IMHO.
