Tavis Smiley and Cornel West Write a Book on Poverty; Set Tour to Promote

tavis smiley & cornel west *Tavis Smiley is more than serious about his campaign to end poverty in America.

The talk show host and author, along with his partner in action, Cornel West, have written a book about the terrible reality across the nation called, “The Rich & the Rest of Us: A Poverty Manifesto.”

The book challenges everyone to refocus and face the gruesome reality about income inequality.

Brothers in the struggle, both Smiley and West will kick off a tour around the U.S. to promote their message and new book on April 15 in Los Angeles. They’ll be visiting churches, libraries, classrooms, and other intellectual environments.

“What happened to the old poor now threatens the new poor,” says Tavis Smiley. “It is true ‘where there is no hope for the future, there is no power in the present.’

Smiley advocates for true socioeconomic liberation and equality, but points out that the groundwork needs to be laid and the traditions toppled.

The new book presents solutions and steps that can be made to resolve this ever-evolving problem.

“When America gets serious about something, we can move proverbial mountains,” says Cornel West. “If we become serious about dedicating ourselves to finding solutions to eradicating poverty, we would surely see a change in 10, 15, or 25 years.”

When will this dog and pony show be over???????? Why don’t they stop talking about poverty and do something about it? I would welcome that!

    • they are, they are peddling vernacular, repackaging it over and over for the consumption of clowns who need it spelled out to them in 201 different ways. as if being poor is something new. if they meant well, all of the proceeds from the book would go to the poor.
