*Whoa, talk about a major oops moment.

Trayvon Martin’s mother is clarifying her comment this morning that the encounter between her son and neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman was an accident, not the shooting that left her 17-year-old son dead.

Sybrina Fulton clarified her remarks Thursday to The Associated Press after she referred to what happened to her son, Trayvon Martin, on NBC’s “Today” show as an accident.

It’s easy to see how some viewers interpreted her remark to mean she was referring to the shooting, but she says that isn’t what she meant. She says the encounter between Martin and George Zimmerman was the accident.

Zimmerman was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder. He is awaiting a first appearance before a judge in a central Florida jail.

Martin’s death, and the delay in Zimmerman’s arrest, led to protests nationwide.

Zimmerman says he shot Martin in self-defense during the Feb. 26 confrontation.

  1. thank goodness, now pull them from the camera’s for awhile. there work is done for the time being.
let us get this nut in jail and then bring the them back to the forefront.

It’s ridiculous that she even felt the need to apologize. Even if she thought it was an accident, it shouldn’t change any level of support and most certainly won’t change the state attorney’s finding.

I pissed that idiots had the nerve to complain about it.

  3. I think it was important to clarify what she said because if she the mother of the victim is saying it was an accident it could help the jury when this goes to trail give Zimmerman a lesser charge like manslaughter. I think it is very important the Martins be clear on what they are saying in the public because it could have an effect on the proceedings.

    • musbdherbs says:

Legally, you’re making absolutely no sense.

      • I am not speaking legally, I just saying some already feel that the least he should have been charged was manslaughter so I don’t think it helps with the mother saying it was an accident so I am glad she cleared up what she might by accident.

        • musbdherbs says:

It really doesn’t matter what “some” people feel. They aren’t prosecuting the case. So no, I don’t think anyone needs to clarify anything when it will do nothing to change the outcome of the case.

The courts will try the case…not us w/our opinions.

It’s just no logic to what people have been suggesting about this story.

    • Grace12_34 says:

NOTHING Trayvon Martin’s mother said will be construed as evidence in the trial, by the jury or anyone else.

  4. babycakes says:

Oh My Goodness!! it is so unnecessary to dissect every word that this family says. Ms Martin lost her son her baby she is still emotional about the whole ordeal. People need to stop whinng and complaining about what the Martin family says or does not say.

  5. redbone1954 says:

We would all like to think that our words or opinions or what people say on TV won’t matter but let’s remember Florida is the atate that aquitted Casey Anthony. All the evidence was IGNORED and what did the jury want to know? How was she killed they knew she was dead and they knew the mother lied about where she was at. sooooooo I’m just not sure. and I agree that maybe they can now have a chance to grieve for their lost

  6. It is past time for the lawyer to keep her off the airwaves, period…and Mr. Martin, too. This undoubtedly has been an emotional roller-coster ride for them both which is why securing legal representation is necessary in this country (in these type of situations) – especially now with all this social media stuff going on – because emotions/feelings change but there is no changing words once they go on record– that’s why you hire an attorney, so they can do the talking *smh*. While I’m glad they finally got around to arresting Zimmerman, based on the challenge they now have of proving 2nd degree murder, it seems like this was the prosecutor’s way of accomplishing what the “delusional” status quo seem to have wanted from the beginning– for Zimmerman to go free. And if they cannot prove 2nd degree murder then he does just that. What’s on the surface rarely tells the whole story. Maybe that’s why Zimmerman’s attorney chose not to request a bond hearing. Maybe there’s no need to spend money on bail when they can protect him on the inside – maybe they will be unable to find a fair and impartial jury in Seminole Co. (so they’ll say) – maybe the trial will be moved to another more favorable location (for the defense) – then maybe he stands trial and is acquitted. These are all hypothetical “what-ifs” but over the years I’ve studied how “they” think and it looks like they’re trying to be slick once again…as usual [to me]. However, Father/Mother is the High Judge and ALLways has the final ruling. I pray for justice for all…

  7. You saw what happened with Bush v. Gore, Casey Anthony. So don’t be surprised about George Zimmerman being innocent in the State of Florida.
