Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz and Mashonda Tifrere on How They Make Their Blended Family Work

*Mashonda Tifrere, Alicia Keys, and their man Swizz Beatz are a shining example of how couples can overcome the challenges of being a blended family, and theirs was eight years in the making.

The trio came together to promote Tifrere’s new book, “Blend: The Secret to Co-Parenting and Creating a Balanced Family,” in which she explains how they all worked through their differences to create a blended family, Page Six reports.

Tifrere was married to Beatz from 2004 to 2010 and they share 11-year-old son Kasseem Jr. Keys and the music producer tied the knot in 2010 and welcomed their first son, Egypt, later that year. At the time, many fans accused Alicia of being the other woman who came between Tifrere and Beatz… of course she denied this.

During Tifrere’s book event, the family noted how checking one’s ego led to their success in co-parenting. But it wasn’t until Kasseem Jr. suffered an accident in Thailand that their co-parenting skills were put to the test, the report states.

During New Year’s 2017, Kasseem Jr. got his finger smashed in a sliding door and the injury was so severe it required emergency surgery. Tifrere recalled getting a text message from Beatz, 40, about the incident, but it was Keys’ call with all the updates and details that mattered the most to her.

“I just felt like, ‘What if we didn’t have that bond?’ I would be sitting on the couch not knowing what to do completely lost.” Tifrere, 40, said, thanking her son’s “bonus mom.” “Moments like that let me know all the work paid off… It was the perfect demonstration of blended.”

The women also talked about their first one-on-one meeting at a restaurant that Keys booked so they could meet in private.

“I prayed and I meditated the day before. The day of. Up until the meeting pointing,” Tifrere quipped of her nervous energy. “I didn’t want to go in with a bunch of emotions … I wanted to see her as a soul.”

Keys acknowledged how far the three of them have come. So much so that she even penned the song “Blended Family” in 2016.
