Bobby Brown: ‘I Loved Whitney with Everything I Am’ (Video)

*Bobby Brown sat down with “Today’s” Matt Lauer to address a number of lingering questions regarding his relationship with ex-wife Whitney Houston. In his first televised interview since her death in February, and he says he still misses her fiercely.

“Our relationship was great,” he said. “I had 14 beautiful, beautiful years with that woman.” And it’s not just his revisionist history, he insisted: “I can honestly say that — I love that woman with — with everything that I am. And I believe she loved me the same way.”

Regarding allegations that he introduced Whitney to drugs, Brown says he never used hard drugs before meeting the songstress, and said that she had used drugs before they were involved. “I worried about it when … we first got together until I tried it,” he said. “And when I tried it, for some reason, I have an addictive personality.”

He does have some regrets, wondering to Lauer whether “I could’ve done something different, you know to — ensure that she had a longer life. But … you have to want it, you know?”

He says his 2005 reality show “Being Bobby Brown,” which at times showed both of them under the influence, was a “wake-up, because we were able to see what others were saying about us …. (to) see that our drug use had affected our relationship, had affected the love we felt for each other.”

Houston declined to appear on a second season of the show, and the pair separated in 2006; they divorced the following year. Still, said Brown — who told Lauer he would be getting remarried “soon” — he still has a lot of room in his heart for his late former wife.

“My fiancee knows how I felt about that woman,” Brown said. “My kids know how I feel … how I felt about Whitney. It’s not a secret, you know? I was in love with her deeply.”

Part two of Bobby Brown’s interview will air Thursday and also includes interviews with four of Brown’s children. Watch part one below.

  1. Bobby needs to stop lying about using drugs prior to him getting with Whitney. He said in his VH1 Behind the Music that he was using drugs during his My Perrogative days. They were both using before they got with each other. That’s probably what drew them together.

    • musbdherbs says:

Didn’t see the VH1 special but did he say he smoked crack and snorted coke? Those would be considered “hard” drugs.

      • ez3372 says:

Of course he didn’t say what kind of drugs he was involved in at that time but he said in the Today interview that he didn’t do drugs…hard or soft…before he met Whitney. Bobby was on heroin…Whitney ain’t never say nothing about being hooked to that so he was on his own with that one. And he did admit that he was hooked on that on Behind the Music.

    • butch31 says:

Exactly! Bobby was kicked out of New Edition in the early 80′s behind cocaine. Bobby got Whitney on drugs. He knows he did, and sat right there and LIED, he almost had a heart attack. His days are numbered.

  2. khanman says:

    He is a murderer!

  3. nightshift says:

The bad boy is always to blame and his name is Bobby . . . . .I am in the small club that NEVER believed that Bobby got Whitney hooked . . . .but it’s all water under the bridge, Whitney is gone . . .too bad they didn’t wake up sooner to see what it was doing to their daughter.

    • Shoelover says:

You and me both, Nightshift. those who are throwing the hate show how young they are. In 1988-89, Bobby was too busy checking his dad who was on tour with him, hitting the bowl with his dancers and getting in trouble with young girls in every town they were in. Bobby smoked, but not snort. And that was the year before he met Whitney, who was using by the time she got with Eddie Murphy, years before meeting Bobby Brown.

  4. platinum says:

Bobby may as well get use to being blamed for his drug addicted ex-wife’s death. He doesn’t have to accept the blame, but just get use to it. Whitney Houston is six feet under because of the choices SHE made. There isn’t any other way to spin this story, Whitney did it to herself, it behooves me that so many are shifting the blame on Bobby! We ALL have a responsibility to ourselves, either we live with the choices we make or die because of the choices we made.

  5. I understand people saying that Whitney was doing drugs before she met Bobby, but isn’t it a stretch for folks to now take it all the other way saying that she was the one who introduced him to drugs?

I’m just saying, for all the folks who vociferously defended Bobby against any claim that he was the one who introduced Whitney to drugs, can’t you see that you are committing the same sin by blaming her for his drug use?

And how do we know that Whitney was the one who introduced him to drugs?
Oh, because Bobby Brown says so. And of course Whitney is not here to defend herself.

Poor Whitney. She’s the reason why Bobby and his family is on drugs.

How long will MSM continue aiding the Browns in their shameless campaign to profit off Whitney Houston by tarnishing her name.

Bobby Brown needs to be in rehab, not giving interviews. He can’t even stay sober while driving. In and out if jail every other month for one offense or another.

    • miss500 says:

I just want to address the comment about Bobby I must say I am bias I love Bobby and he can’t do no wrong in my eyes. He is good man at heart if he wasn’t he would not have done no jail time or got in trouble you may not know what I mean but people with big hearts usually end up in jail or trouble , for we wear our feelings on our sleeves . Bobby is having fun he is doing his thing and living his life no telling how may people is out here driving while drinking or drunk. I just hope he can continue to sing and take care of his family and not get in no more trouble no sense in giving these people your hard earned money . Or get hurt we don’t want lose you Bobby Brown too soon either.

  6. butch31 says:

O MG this dude is sitting there LYING straight through his teeth, I wanna say I don’t believe it. I am in awe at that LIES he’s spewing. Whitney was begged, warned and told NOT to marry this trash can. Bobby made sure he took Whitney down. I always thought when u took the vowels in marriage ‘Til death do us part, u were so suppose to do just that. Bobby got Whitney on those drugs, we didn’t notice changes until 1994 in Whitney. Whitney is NOT here to defend herself, and obviously can not speak for herself. Why didn’t he do all this talking while Whitney was alive? He had lunch with Whitney & Krissy the last week she was alive, I’m wondering who gave Whitney the drugs, was it Raffles, Ray J or Bobby? I guess we will have to sit and wait on this one. Whitney was dead before she hit the tub. I am angry with Pat, Gary, Krissy, Gordon, Ray J, Mary, Ray and whoever else left her to die like that. What goes around comes around.

  7. jbfromptown says:

Can we stop the blame game? There are so many factors and evil things in the entertainment industry, blaming Bobby Brown is the easy way out. Whitney been involved in some stuff since sharing an apt. with her homey\boo\friend Robin on Sussex Avenue in Kuzuri Kijiji.

Let this situation rest. She is gone and not coming back. All of her enablers have a part in her demise and dont think Clive Davis dont have a part. She was better off dead than alive….

God be with ALL of us..

  8. miss500 says:

I love Bobby and he has no reason to lie , I feel so sorry for all who love Whitney and her family we all are still grieving she was a wonderful talented person and I do wish we could have helped her live longer and better . We want to let her legacy be in who she is not what we think but the person inside and her gift she gave us . I want to say to Bobby and his family I love you and I believe you love Whitney and your fans for keeping you in our hearts and prayers . When we feeling sad or happy we have a song to sing or listen to that gives us comfort and joy.

    • Bobby Brown is full of it. This is the person he claims he “Loved with Everything I Am.”
OK, I get it. He and his fans don’t want him to be blamed for introducing Whitney to drugs, but if he loved and respected this woman, he wouldn’t be dragging her name through the mud saying that she was the one who got him hooked on drugs, either.

I’m just saying, for all the folks that’s been saying that Whitney was using before she met him, can’t we all be fair enough to say the same about him, since he won’t?

And some want to talk about letting this rest.
Like who’s been bringing it up other than MSM and the Browns?

And fans of Whitney or anyone objective enough to see through the BS are supposed to sit idle by.

      Please.
