Carl Franklin, meanwhile, is set to direct “City of Night,” a thriller about a Los Angeles Police Department rookie who finds himself working in the toughest crime unit in the city.
Meyers Media Group and McDonald Entertainment announced Tuesday that they will co-finance the movie, written by David Chisholm.
Franklin, whose credits include “One False Move” and “Devil in a Blue Dress,” most recently directed the pilot episode of TNT’s “Falling Skies” and the premiere episode of Starz’s “Magic City.”

I hope they have a role for Clarence Williams III who was excellent in “Against the Wall” which is another movie based on events that occurred at Attica.
I’ve seen the 2 movies mentioned plus to Sleep With Anger (I think he directed that one too) that Carl Franklin directed. Very talented man. I wondered what had happened to him.
I’ve seen all of these too. I watched “One False Move” again not too long ago. Charles Burnett directed “To Sleep with Anger” and a couple of others that are my favorites. Been trying to contact him to locate a copy of another film he wrote but didn’t direct titled “Bless Their Little Hearts”.
