*Atlanta-based pop-R&B trio OMG Girlz is back after an 8-year hiatus, and we caught up with singers Zonnique “Star” Pullins, Bahja “Beauty” Rodriguez, and Breaunna “Baby Doll” Womack to find out what they’ve been up to.

The OMG Girlz was developed by Tameka “Tiny” Cottle-Harris. The trio is known for popular songs like ‘Gucci This (Gucci That)’ and ‘So Official,’ which helped them gain a healthy fan base. They even received praise from Queen Beyonce herself.

The group made recent headlines after TI and Tiny Harriss filed a lawsuit against MGA Entertainment, claiming the company copied the likeness of their group for the line of “L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G” dolls.

The group disbanded in 2015 but is back with their hot new buzz track, LOVERBOY, just in time for the summer.

What prompted your decision to reunite — were there any life experiences, personal journeys, or personal growth that influenced you to get back together?

Bahja: So basically, we kind of started talking about this in January, actually coming back together. We obviously had an invested interest where we were fighting against this big corporation that had stolen our image and our likeness. And while we were in the midst of that, we just really saw the impact that we have. And we just felt like… excuse me, now would be the perfect time to give our fans this record, which is something that they really wanted for a long time. And that was kind of how we got back together and we’re like, “Okay, cool. Let’s drop this record and let’s see where it goes.” We’re just navigating this space right now.

How does it feel to be back together as a group, and what are you looking most forward to as you embark on this new chapter together?

Zonnique: It’s so good to be back together and be doing things together. I feel like we’ve always still hung out and always stayed in touch and always have remained family. So it’s always fun for us three to be together. We enjoy hanging out on a regular. So it’s fun to be getting back to the music side of things. And I mean, I think that everybody is excited for honestly everything. It’s been what? 10 years or so since we’ve actually done anything new music-wise together. So we’re just excited to see where it goes. I’m really excited to see us get back on stage personally. I feel like that’s one of our strong points. So I’m excited to see how that’s going to go for us because we always have a great time on stage together.

Are there any plans to tour this year? Is there an album in the works?

Zonnique: Well, we definitely do plan to do shows. Hopefully, tour for sure. We not sure exactly what that’s going to be, what it’s going to look like yet, but we do have that in the plan. And we also are planning to record new music, so we will be figuring out exactly what that’s going to be looking like as well. I feel like it’s at the beginning of the process of us getting everything back together and starting out. So it’s just the beginning steps. We have to see where it’s about to go. But we definitely have plans to do all of those things. Yes.

Tell us about the inspiration behind the new single.

Breaunna: So with Lover Boy, it’s a love song. We like to write about things and our feelings and stuff like that. Or when we were going through things, shout out to our sis Libby and also a guy named Taylor. They wrote the song. And when we were sitting around talking and stuff like that, well, she actually wrote the song, and we heard it, and we loved it. But it was relatable because it’s about a guy, a lover boy that loves you but at the same time playing games and you don’t really have time to be waiting to be playing the games. We felt very connected to it, and we love the song so much. So right now, as of today, it is out on every platform, and we’re very excited.

How does your approach to your new material compare to your previous work? Do you plan to explore new sounds, new technology or work with any particular producers or guest stars?

Breaunna: That is definitely all in the plans. We would love to work with people, do features and new producers. We always been ones to do R&B, but also pop records and different types of sound records. So we’ll still be doing that type of thing. That’s true to us. But with us being mature and older, there would definitely be more topics that we could talk about from things we’ve been through. And so people can see that when it comes to more of our music with… they can get an older version of us. Still like to dance, have some vibes to dance and then some heartfelt music and stuff like that. But we are looking forward to working with other people, getting some features, working with new producers and getting some new music out there. So yeah, most definitely, all of that would be in the works.

Any specific goals or milestones you hope to achieve now that you’re back at it?

Bahja: I think we definitely want a number one. I think that’s something that we really, really want and something that we feel we really deserve with all the hard work we put in. So we’re definitely aiming for that.
