*The official conclusion of the 16th Annual American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach, Saturday, June 23rd capped off the festival’s 4 days of activities in which movie-goers and prospective film industry newcomers were treated to a multitude of independent feature length films and screenings by some of the most talented emerging filmmakers in the business.
The day before, winding down the festivities on Friday, the panel of the filmmakers (Will Packer, Rob Hardy, Tim Story) and cast (Terrence J) from “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man” thoroughly entertained the audience with their off the cuff antics as well as educated them on the ins-and-outs of the industry by taking questions from aspiring film producers/directors.
At the closure of the panel, Jeff Friday, ABFF founder, proudly presented the ABFF Hall of Fame award to the obviously surprised, humbled dynamic duo Packer and Hardy. A Crown Royal cocktail reception followed, capping off the evening.
Saturday evening brought the closing night film of “Raising Izzie” (to air on GMC in July) starring Vanessa Williams (“Soul Food” series) and Rockmond Dunbar (“Soul Food” series) walking the red carpet, as well as actress Malinda Williams. The closing night reception was held at Dream Hotel where ABFF attendees and celebs partied the night away in true South Beach fashion atop a beautiful rooftop.
