*Ending months of speculation, Cissy Houston has officially announced she is penning a book about her late superstar daughter, Whitney Houston.

The Houston family matriarch signed a deal with HarperCollins, which promises the “unabridged and unbelievable story” of the talented and troubled singer, whose once-soaring career stumbled while she grappled with drug addiction and a rocky marriage to Bobby Brown.
“When I lost my daughter Nippy (Whitney Houston’s nickname), the world lost one of the most beautiful voices and an extraordinarily beautiful and charitable woman,” Cissy Houston said Monday in a statement via The Associated Press.
“In sharing our story in this book, I hope to give her fans something to treasure, the way we all treasured Whitney. We are still receiving thousands of letters each day from her fans, and I hope reading this book will provide a deeper understanding into my daughter’s true story,” continued Houston.
The book will be published in February 2013; financial terms weren’t disclosed.
In April, reports emerged that she had been pitching the book idea to publishers, promising a true tale of Houston’s life.
I’m on the fence about her doing this book because I don’t know if it’ll give not only the wonderful side of Whitney, but also the Whitney who had demons. Maybe this book will be therapy for Cissy.
LOL. Where are all the naysayers that was condemning Bobby B for his ‘imagery’ book on Whitney? That’s okay because it’s okay for Mama and other members of Whitney’s family to make money off of her but it’s wrong when others do it?? Okay. LOL.
You beat me to it NYCsoul……I was gonna say is she gonna be seen as money hungry like Bobby was for shopping around a tell all book. And at least Bobby’s was written before she died. Not saying it was ok but at least be fair. First Bobbi Kristina and Whitney’s brother and sister in law gets a reality show and now this. I bet somebody will try to justify it some how LOL!
In defense of Cissy, she is her mother and was still a part of her life. Bobby can shop around a book all he wants but no publisher must wasn’t interested in the book because where is the book? I think Cissy will give a fair account of daughter’s life of what she knows without someone like Bobby trying to place blame for his actions on someone else aka like his Today’s interview.
Why wasn’t she writing a tell all when Whitney was alive to give a fair account of her daughter’s life?
Because Whitney isnt here anymore to write one and there is still a high demand to know about Whitney from those closest to her.
So you really believe this book is only about telling a fair account of Whitney’s life (which will only be Cissy’s account because she wasn’t around Whitney all the time) and not about getting paid at all? Really? OK
Well, Bobby was closest to Whitney too. I don’t get Whitney fans who are hell bent on trying to erase Bobby out of Whitney’s life. It ain’t gonna happen. Whitney loved Bobby and vice versa. I don’t get all the negativity towards Bobby sometimes.
It really doesn’t matter who writes a book. The point is that there is money to be made and if Bobby wrote it, everyone would give him hell. Now her mother wants to write it, it all love and gravy. Sounds like a double standard to me.
Thank you NYCsoul! I’m not mad at Cissy for trying to make some money if she can but people need to stop acting like it’s all about getting Whitney’s story out, no it’s about making money….period. I guess people like to pretend like Whitney didn’t like Bobby Brown even though she had lunch with him like a week before she passed away. Who has lunch with someone they hate? Fact of the matter is Whitney did not hate Bobby & Bobby didn’t hate her either so people need to just accept it and move on. No matter what Cissy says about Bobby in the book it still doesn’t change the fact that Whitney loved him. Everyone seemed like they were mad because Whitney’s brother and sister in law said they liked Bobby and had good things to say about him in that Oprah interview. They were just waiting for the negativity and it never happened.
Snicker, I am not even a Bobby Brown fan but the attacks on him by Whitney’s fans is ridiculous. It’s okay to blame Bobby for everything that went wrong in Whitney’s life but he says that about Whitney, folks get upset. I mean, none of us were privy to what went on and as far as I see, Whitney didn’t seem to give a damn what the public thought about Bobby. She did what she wanted to do. Her own mama could not even take her child from her when she was busy getting high, so what does that tell you. I ain’t mad at Cissy for getting paid either but it’s silly to get mad when Bobby wants to do the same thing. The only people who have a problem with Bobby are the fans. It’s hilarious to me.
BOBBY B. Will never b able 2 sale his book…. In the divorce he sign a confidentiality clause, that’s why his friend wrote his story about Whitney, but no publisher is calling him.
@beatrice, thank you!!!! No one is hating on Bobby Brown, that book Bobby and his friend was trying to get publish was way before Whitney died back in 2008 and no major publisher was interested and plus Bobby can’t discuss any details about their life together based on the confidentiality agreement. Who knows what Cissy will write about, maybe she tell what she really thought of Bobby and his family, when she first discovered Whitney was using, etc.
I want to see the divorce decree that states that Bobby signed a confidentiality agreement. Even if he did, Whitney is dead. So doesn’t that make the confidentiality agreement null and void? Just saying. Plus, how do you know that his book will never sell? You do you know that he can self-publish if he wants to. People will buy it. People in other countries would buy it. It ain’t all about the US. There is a world out there that were fans of Whitney, too.
Maybe Cissy will get the book to come out at the same time as her new CD. I think it EUR reported it will be her first release in 15 years.
