*The first time we saw Erykah Badu’s new video for her quirky version of the classic Roberta Flack song “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” all we could say was “What tha …?”
Of course Madame Badu is no stranger to getting bucky naked. We all remember her nude stroll through the streets of downtown Dallas a couple of years ago for her video for “Window Seat.” If you thought she showed it all then, wait ’till you see what she’s showing now. Well actually wait ’til you see what her SISTER, Nayrok Badu is showing. It’s obvious Nayrok is very comfortable being filmed naked. And sister Erykah is very proud of her for doing so.

While, the intense video, from the rock band Flaming Lips’ new CD “Heady Fwends,” shows lots “tasteful” nudity, it’s not even remotely in the same class as Brian McKnight’s latest creative binges, but it’s also very NSFW!
So, if you’re ready, take a peek below and let us know whatchoo think. ![]()

I don’t see it as art… more like soft porn. I’m kinda disappointed in Erykah for this.
anything to push those sales huh Eryka?
Erykah’s NEED to feel relevant is clouding her judgement and has allowed her to alienate her fans. She now seems desperate for attention rather then using the opportunity to speak through art. I’m not going to say it’s a shame for her because it’s her free willed choice. It is a shame however for the millions who became her fans based on the type of art she did in the past that was out of the box yet not out of bounds. She will continue to lose those fans with the new choices that she is making. Wow, missing Erykah Wright.
Sighing….I love Ms. Badu but this new direction got me side eyeing her.
ok, i didnt know whether or not i should have thrown-up, popped a woody or done both at the same time. wth was that?
Hope she doesn’t end up like Lauren Hill.
smh.
Although I’d like to, I don’t have the space to analyze this “program” for what it is – you’ve got to really read between the lines on this stuff. Every video/commercial/tv show/movie/play/video game created by the so-called elite (aka Big Business, corporate conglomerates, The Hidden Hand) and affiliates that work beneath its wide-reaching umbrella are mind programming mechanisms…all with different [dark/negative] agendas…all targeting various markets (categories) whether it be our little children to the tweens and teens to young adults and adults. There will be those that look innocent and unassuming – in some surface ways, positive – but what lies beneath are all sorts of subtle/subconscious (including those that are over-the-top) triggers aimed at “controlling” the way one thinks then acts on those thoughts—repeatedly.
Hip-Hop…yet another African-cultured art form kidnapped, raped and thrown back to the masses as a run-over slave of the so-called elite. Three years ago when I was Awakened to ‘the industry’…my research uncovered many unsettling and sickening aspects of their game…things the opposite of manhood/womanhood-integrity-honor-GOoDness. I also learned that even what we were labeling as “conscious” Hip-Hop just seemed that way on the surface. There is no serving two masters and no straddling the fence—we are either of The Light or the darkness. I’m already saying more than I intended but there was a period when I thought Erykah was of ‘The Light’ (she was one of my favorites, and many favorites I did not have)…I mean, her costume of natural hair (turned out those locks were extensions), the ankhs, the professed vegetarian lifestyle and many of the lyrics looked/”seemed”/sounded – again, on the surface – to be positive…and in some respects they were but agendas don’t always pan-out overnite…some agendas develop over a period of years and years…and now that Erykah Badu has been on the scene pushin’ what we thought to be positivity for over 15, over the past three or so, she’s been representing some things different. See, she now has enough followers willing to follow her [thoughts] regardless of how freakish and bizarre her antics are.
MelodyCool said she hopes she doesn’t end up like Lauryn Hill. I feel ya, MC. Well, Lauryn Hill is paying the price of ‘the sale’. She wanted out but as we can all see – if we open our eyes – some things have a way of following you even when you get out…basically, for most, there is no getting out.
For the young girls/women that may be looking at this video and wondering which way(s) to think [about it]…just ask your Self a question…”would exposing my [private] body to the world covered in fluids [meant to represent other fluids] make me feel lifted up [on the inside]?” What you feel deep down on the inside usually doesn’t lie. Stay tuned-in to the “real” You. The real you is The Light.
I went to read some of the comments on wshh, which between all the horny boy comments, someone stated that it seemed like this video was making a statement about black women as hottentot venuses & the middle passage. Frankly, I think its reaching considering the cumbath at the end. Roberta Flack’s song is a love song so I don’t get the connection between something so brutal as the middle passage and a love song from an old Clint Eastwood movie. I don’t see how this was ‘tastefully’ done when we see literally see her boobs, elongated labia and her slapping her ass a couple of times. They need more people with this one.
I am really not sure what Erykah Badu was think and why Roberta Flack would let her destroy her song. I know she is/was studying to become a midwife so I am wondering does this has something to do with the video…not sure. I just do not understand the art of it…
Okay …i admit it does catchew off guard….but that happens when u sleep on the creative genius of badu.Eminem was layin in a tub of blood in 3a.m no bady said chit about that so, she did what he did but she just out did him. Prince showed his cheex on stage on t.v…….and this show called true blood does more then what she did and no one sayin chit about that either. Just because she doin what you’ve gotten used to dont mean she in the wrong…….it just mean your mad because she’s not being like everyone else.
just so happens i watched it wit no sound……..i’m tryin to understand the bear paw………….it’s an abstract video…..i heard the song before…so i aint trippin…..i’m tryin to see what was goin on that could reach the perspective of a deaf person.Dont hate her….dont even dare try to judge her…..there’s no one to compare her to , so you can’t possibly try to judge her.
This is just an evolutionary moment brought to you by the Badu.
Keep it up girly…………they couldn’t understand the lyrics in On&On and they show aint catchin the vision of the video here…….peace.
ain’t gonna say what i wanna say, but if i were gonna say it, i would of said “should of been a second shooter in dallas.” But i can’t say that!
Nobody’s mad about a music video. It isn’t that serious. If folks don’t get it, they don’t get it. I don’t follow the woman like she’s a God of some sort. I know she’s an artist and there’s nothing wrong with one who thinks out the box. However, the question still remains what is the point she’s trying to make? Condemning folks for an opinion and you still haven’t stated what the point of the video is. *SMH*
So she’s feedin’ into this hedonistic bullshit too huh? SMDH. I thought she evolved higher than that, but I see she tryin’ to get in where she think she fit in by following the crowd and butchering a classic along the way.
