*Unpaid child support could put former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield behind bars.
According to reports, the boxer is facing jail time if he doesn’t give up $300k for his 18-year-old daughter Emani.
The Georgia Department of Human Services has gone to court and made the claim, saying he’s not paid a dime since April 2010. His tab is closing in on $400k.
Holyfield is taking too long for DHS, so jail is the next option along with garnished wages.
However, his rep says he’s unaware of he issue and added that Holyfield and his daughter have a great relationship.

Apparently here is another situation aside from Dennis Rodman and Terrell Owens where an athlete can’t pay his child support. I do agree that the amount is a lot that he’s behind on and having to pay.This article said his child’s age was 18. If so, the child is, or almost an adult depending on the state this child lives in. Is child support money based on the total income of the father or what? Any man that have fathered children and is not supporting them, i do not feel sorry for. They should already know by now what to expect from the courts when it comes to unpaid child support.
We must understand that when child support is not paid penalties and interest occur just like an unpaid IRS bill. An unpaid 2,000 child support payment can hypothetically balloon into a 20,000 payment due to penalities and interest. The longer the support goes unpaid, the more penalties and interest pile on until you have a situation like Mr. Holyfield’s. One of the reasons state’s were so happy to institute child support programs is that they get a cut of the money if the father doesn’t pay by attaching penalties and interest to unpaid child support bills. That is why any man and woman who have a child together should create a voluntary child support agreement (notarized by a Notary) with a set amount to be paid each month by the non-custodial parent. This type of agreement would keep the state out of your business and all monies would go to the custodial parent and the child without accruing penalities and interest. The agreement will be legally binding by both parties and the party paying the child support should endeavor to keep the payment current each month. The state cannot prevent two people from doing this. You are not required to file for child support with a state agency. You can create a child support agreement between yourself and the other parent. The agreement can include anything both parties agree on – such as a small late fee if support is not paid by a certain date in the month. Visitation rights can also be included in the agreement. These types of agreements keep the lawyers and state officials out of your personal family business. Thus keeping more money in your pocket and onto the backs of your children. Also, it does matter that the child is not 18 years old. Unpaid child support payments can be claimed many, many years after the child has become an adult. Mr. Holyfield made several mistakes 1) he had multiple children by multiple women; 2) he squandered several hundreds of millions of dollars over his working life time; 3) even after making hundreds of millions of dollars he did not pay his child support on a timely basis. He has no one to blame for his troubles but himself.
You are so on point. That’s what my business entails…family law and the system is so screwed up…I simply do not believe the State should be involved. In California, child support is now federally mandated. It is a complete nightmare. I’m constantly telling clients, close your case and work something out amongst yourselves. Even when support is paid off, there is almost an issue of arrears…its crazy. When a person receives public assistance, the state goes for the jugular and keeps all the money except $50..

In some states (like New York), child support continues until the child reaches age 21. I really hate to hear men whining about paying child support.
ok, the child is 18 but, isn’t there such a thing as “BACK” child support? she could be 45 and he’ll still owe and she’ll still want it. When he started acquiring these tricks and toddlers, he should have bought a small town and built modest homes for them and himself as well and made himself the mayor. Or invested in pharmacuticals (DNA testers). . . but for the most part, his life is a wreck.
