James Fortune has released a statement on child abuse allegations:
“I recently became aware of a civil suit pending against my wife, Cheryl Fortune and I, for an incident that occurred in 2001 involving my stepson. There was a criminal investigation and all matters were resolved in 2003. Since that time, my family and I, including my stepson, have continued with family traditions and always have a loving family environment.
We are shocked by this lawsuit but understand people are free to use the court system to pursue claims, whether they contain merit or baseless matters. We are confident through this process, if it proceeds to a judge or jury, the ultimate decision maker will render a decision that is favorable to the circumstances and timing surrounding this situation. We believe in our American justice system and know it will work for us as it has for millions of other Americans. I love all my children, including my stepson, and I ask for your prayers as we deal with this matter privately. Thank you for your continued support for me, my family, and ministry.”

*Houston’s Fox 26 news is reporting that a civil law suit has been filed against James Fortune and his wife Cheryl for child abuse.

In 2001 Mr. Fortune allegedly abused his step son, age 4 at the time. According to the report, Fortune whipped the child naked with a switch, then held him down in a tub of scalding water—all for coloring on a table at school. The boy was flown by life flight to the Shriner’s Burn Hospital, where he remained for 63 days with second and third degree burns over 47% of his body.
In 2003 James Fortune pleaded guilty to felony injury to a child and received 6 years of deferred adjudication.
Now 15, the child has undergone several skin graph surgeries. He sustained some permanent injuries. The victim’s biological father is suing the Fortunes for $5 million to cover additional plastic surgery to correct the disfigurement.

In simple terms, what does “received 6 years of deferred adjudication” mean? Does it mean this monster went to jail or not? Six years of whatever he got was not enough time. I swear the laws to protect children are not stringent enough! Asshole!

He called that tortured event an “incident”, really!!! That baby was in the hospital for 63 days! How many nights did that baby cry from the pain of being burned. Yes, this man has hell to pay! What was he on at the time, and how the fuck he didn’t go to prison?

The Bible states “those without sin, cast the first stone”.. Where I am a mother, I can’t imagine a child going thru this treacherous ordeal let alone my own child. At 4 years old you are as white as snow and as innocent and pure as can be. I am not Cheryl or James Fortune’s judge nor jury but you rest assured God is in control of situations as these and all others. We can throw rocks, stones, bricks but at the end of the day Vengeance is mine saith the Lord..We don’t know what James’ days or nights are like but trust, this will haunt him for the rest of his life and it will haunt Cheryl more, Your own flesh and blood you carried for 9 months…only they know, thats why I say God handles it all. When God sees fit for this issue to lay at rest it will. So don’t worry God’s got it. Justice will prevail in the end.

Is the child’s mother still with that pig?! I would’ve killed that bastard if that was my baby, beating that child almost to death had more to do with him coloring on some table. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he did it to get back at the child’s mother for something.
Who really cares what the idiot minister and his puppet wife and disloyal mother days and nights are like, think what that child’s life is like day and night. Let me continue. I want to address some issues — First, of course you would sue now that James & Cheryl may have the ability to pay. It is almost impossible to find a lawyer that will take your case when the defendants do not have the ability to pay. Would you waste your time suing someone broke. Also I know all the parties in this case, the father is a respected educator in the Houston Community and owns a private school. He’s a hard worker and is loved by the students at his school. James Fortune is a selfish SOB who has preyed on people for years because church people are sooo stupid and vulnerable. So let me drop another bomb on you all…James has another mentally disabled child that they keep hidden away because its not a love child…its a rape child. That bastard participated in a gang rape at a church and it was determined by DNA he was the one who fathered the child. I can’t stand him or his fake wife!!! The news media needs to investigate that as well.
If the allegations are true, James went too far. This was a toddler. It appears that hatred was in his heart and he took it out on the child. Pay the money. I will never purchase your music. I am appalled by this behavior directed to a defenseless child. How can you live with yourself? You coward.

I am sickened and horrified by what he did to this child and he is walking around free.The laws in this country to protect our children are so weak that these sick pigs can do what they want and then walk around and say Oh God forgave me OK and the Bible also speaks about the children and if he thinks God likes what is going on with HIS children he better think again.
