Oprah’s Interview with the Kardashians Shows Desperation

oprah & the kardashians*Oprah Winfrey is really reaching to the bottom of the bucket, as they say, to garner ratings for her failing network OWN. She’s scheduled to interview with the forever-controversial Kardashian clan.

Yes they’ve made heads turn and caused a ruckus among steaming mothers, but what have they really contributed to society or made headlines about?

So, get ready for a two-hour interview of … more Kardashian madness.

Critics say the former queen of daytime has really done it in for her reputation. Not only is OWN programming a bit disappointing, but also “Oprah’s Next Chapter” is getting ready to make people protest.

Here’s what Jennifer Mabry wrote about the situation at The Root:

So, um, how exactly does a two-hour interview with the Kardashian clan fit into that paradigm?

Two years ago, when OWN launched, I wrote on The Root that I was disappointed in the programming the network was offering. Now, not only am I disappointed, but I am literally sickened by this news. We have a saying in the black community: “When you know better, you do better.”

By her actions, Winfrey is showing everyone who ever trusted her taste and admired her accomplishments that she has lost her moral compass and will do anything to gain ratings.

At this point, Winfrey might as well come out and say she favors the legalization of pornography and prostitution. Lest anyone forget: Kim Kardashian’s fame is rooted in her notoriety.

She made a sex tape with R&B singer William “Ray J” Norwood, unintended for the public, in 2007. But as is often the case in these types of scenarios, the tape was leaked and went viral on the Internet. Vivid Entertainment, a porn distributor, purchased it from an unknown third party, but the matter was eventually settled in a California Superior Court in Los Angeles, with Kardashian receiving a share of the profits as compensation for invasion of her privacy.

In a statement made to People.com at the time, Kardashian said that its public release was hurtful to her and her family. After enduring that type of unwanted attention, most people would have quietly retreated from the public spotlight. But not Kardashian. The paparazzi, and other media outlets, clung to her like gum to the bottom of a shoe, and sadly for the rest of us, she has become embedded in our collective consciousness. And there’s no indication that her 15 minutes are coming to an end anytime soon.

My sentiments exactly!!!! I know The Kardashian clan are famous for whatever and some people follow them but Oprah did not have ot go there as if interviewing this family is really going to help the ratings on her struggling network, most people do not know what channel it is anyway.

I completely disagree with you. If this interview were on her talk show, you would be right. Oprah is the only person to get to interview the ENTIRE Jenner/Kardashian clan all at once. You can’t do that without clout. Oprah is right on the money, staying on the pulse of who to interview and when.

    Reposting —

I thought I’d do my research before labeling Dr. Mabry an embittered, barren, unmarried black woman, none of which she appears to be.

HOWEVER, she is still on the hate-bandwagon. I don’t see the Kardashians taking food off your table. If you have nothing better to do with your Ph.D. (doctor of philosophy) than spew hate (or playa-hatin’ degree?) about an ENTERTAINMENT MOGUL interviewing a REALITY ENTERTAINMENT FAMILY, than you have a little too much TIME ON YOUR HANDS.

I don’t know what it is about Kim Kardashian that has black women so riled up that any article I read about this chick on an historically black blog or website is always rife with comments calling KK’s virtue and hygiene into question. I really wish someone could shed some light on that topic for me.

I don’t see white female bloggers/writers blogging about Barbara Walters’ interview choices.

Oprah is desperate? The Kardashians were just offered millions to continue their reality show and every late night show want them on their show. Stop trying to boycott, this is not the early 1900′s.
