'I’ve never dealt with the question of my personal life in public' - Queen Latifah

queen latifah*Queen Latifah clarified the rumors about her performance at the Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride event on May 19. She said it was NOT her coming out moment.

“That definitely wasn’t the case,” she tells EW. “I’ve never dealt with the question of my personal life in public. It’s just not gonna happen.”

She then reflected on similar performances, saying they are some of the best shows she does.

“To me, doing a gay pride show is one of the most fun things,” she says. “My first show that paid more than $10,000 was in a gay club on New Year’s Eve in San Francisco. Tupac happened to be in town, so he came to kick it with me. This was the early ’90s. And the boys were like, ‘Take your shirt off, Tupac!’  He wasn’t doing that. But we had a blast in there.”

The rapper/singer/actress also emphasized that she’s very supportive of her gay fans, saying love is all she’s got, especially for people who are constantly embattled with hatred and bullying.

People are trying to push her out the closet. Leave her alone and let her live her life.

  2. In regard to Queen Latifah, a confirmation on whether she is gay or festival rumors of coming out it not necessary. No gay or straight person is obligated to discuss or disclose their sexual preferences to the public. Really it’s nobody’s business on who she goes to bed and wake up with. In no manner do I need Queen Latifah to confirm that she’s Black, or a lesbian. For the most part and regardless of her sexuality she still has fans and is cool with others.

Wow! Tupac went to a gay bar……..that’s refreshing. Some of his formative years were spent in Marin City, across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. Marin is a very progressive liberal community so the residences are not known to be prejudice or discriminatory to anyone. Sounds like some of that liberalism rubbed off on Tupac.

Latifah’s sexuality is no one’s business but her own. If she was known for making derogatory statements about the LGBT community, that would be a different thing. But she doesn’t and appears to not focus on someone’s sexual orientation. With that stance, I vote for her to continue to handle this issue as she sees fit.

(Still, in some circles, Latifah’s sexuality is “not” one of the best kept secrets in Hollywood).

She doesn’t need to “come out.” The photos taken aboard that yacht during Alicia Keys’ honeymoon said it all.

I agree, QL should not be forced to come out. Folks just want to be titilated and watch her squirm behind this admission. Professionally, it’s probably better if she doesn’t make her ‘debut’ then she might be pidgeon-holed and typecast in certain roles like ‘Set It Off’.

Everybody including Stevie Wonder can see that she’s a carpet muncher!
