Rodney King’s Family Asking for Funeral Funds from the Public

rodney king*Police beating victim Rodney King is a figure in history that reminds the African American community that racism is still a strong force in society.

Despite his historical significance, he was not a rich man with a whole lot of financial influence. And since his passing, his family has had trouble scraping up funds to have a proper burial.

After being granted $3.8 million from a settlement from the City of Los Angeles for the traumatic incident in 1992, he died without any of it.

According to reports, his funeral costs are expected to be no less than $22K.

Now the family is asking the public for help to give the man the funeral they believe he deserves.

In the meantime, an investigation is currently underway to discover the cause of death.

King is remembered by three adult daughters and other family members.

He will be laid to rest on June 30.

What happened to all of his millions?

Now you all know that was smoked up. Sad the conclusion had to come to this.

Maybe he shouldn’t have a $22K++ funeral. Maybe they should give him a funeral they can afford rather than one “he deserves”.

  4. You don’t have to be rich to have life insurance. Millions of Americans have it. Families have it. Adults who are responsible have it. You can obtain it for am affordable per month rate. Tomorrow is promised to no one, and if you care about those you will leave behind, you make the proper arrangements. Too many times in our community, families are begging for money when a loved one dies to be able to handle the funeral expenses. Unfortunately, it is not everyone else’s duty to pick up the slack for someone else not taking care of business. I don’t mean to offend or to be harsh. My will keep the family in my thoughts and prayers, but all that a any person deserves is a proper burial, not a spectacle and grand affair. Let this be a lesson to us all to wake up and make sure you and your loved ones prepare for the day when you are called home, and in some cases, prepare for others in your family who may be slipping themselves. My own family has some members that are not the most responsible of types, and/or have fallen on hard times, etc. However, we make sure that all of us are covered, even if it calls for those of us who are doing better than others assist in making sure there is coverage. To get out on a corner with a can begging for change or anywhere else is hardly the way to give someone a fitting homegoing and laying to rest in my opinion.

  5. Simpson Family Mortuary in San Bernardino (which is not that far from his home), or facility in Los Angeles, CA would give him a decent burial much lesser than 22K. I understand the family would like to give him a nice home going service, but why spend funds you don’t have? This situation is very sad, where they have to ask the public to help bury their love one. Rest in peace Rodney King! Still I wonder exactly what happened to the 3.8 million dollars that had been awarded to him? So how in the hell do you go from Compton to Beverly Hills, then from Beverly Hills back to Compton? Or from rags to riches, then from riches back to rags?

Beautifully said SRG!!!! $22.k++ FOR A FUNERAL??? They must
gone have him dipped in gold. Rodney did blow his money. On a
rercording studio, drugs etc I heard him tell a shocked Don Lemon all
the money as gone(blank-stare). They coud still give him a decent
funeral and it don’t have to be $22k? I guess the family will be suff-
    ering afterwards.smh!

This really isn’t anything against Rodney King, but it’s typical for people who receive settlements to not have a dime of it in the end. He got the money without out any sound financial advice. I have a strange feeling that when he was blowing the money…some of his relatives may have been along for the ride. I agree with most people, 22K. Really? If you want to go out like that fine. However, you should have the money to do it. I find it a bit tacky they are bold enough to ask for donations for a funeral that costs 22K when he could be buried for far less. I’m sorry for their loss..but at some point people have to be realistic.
