Over at Essence, they spoke to Tippi Shorter, Keys’ longtime hairstylist. Shorter says that Alicia had been in the market for a new hairstyle for quite some time.
“Alicia has talked about cutting her for the last five years,” Shorter told Essence.com. “This seemed like the perfect time [for a cut] with the release of a new song appropriately titled ‘New Day.’”

Come out with music like you debuted with, if you want to remain relevant. Nobody really gives a rat’s little hairy gray ass about your hair.
I love Alicia’s hair cut. She is such a beautiful person inside and out.
What is there to explain? She wanted a new look and that’s that. I don’t see why messence is posting a poll about whether people like her look or not. It’s her business and if she likes it, who cares what other people think?
