*A black man now holds the title of “fastest swimmer in America.”
Charlotte, North Carolina’s Cullen Jones won the men’s 50 freestyle – in 21.59 seconds at the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, according to the Charlotte Observer.
“I’ve been dreaming of this forever, of qualifying for two individual events in the Olympics,” Jones said in response to a reporter’s question. “The only thing different is that, in my dream, I’m giving better answers.”

He will be swimming in 3 events in the London Olympics this year and knows he can’t disappoint.
“The plan now,” Jones said, “is not to let the U.S. down.”

Actually, the top TWO fastest swimmers in the U.S. The guy who came second who won the gold in 2000 is also African American. I met him in L.A. when a common friend of ours introduced us many years ago.
