*Lil’ Scrappy made a risky move recently in response to Frank Ocean’s coming out moment, commenting that he’s glad his peer made the announcement because it will help keep down the AIDS epidemic.
The rapper said that he’s glad Ocean did what he did so that “all the real women that love to mess with real men, straight men, we can keep the AIDS situation down, you feel me?”
According to TMZ, he cited that science has proven homosexuality is the doorway to AIDS.
Although it’s true that homosexual men are at higher risk for contracting the deadly disease, Scrappy’s statement is a bit misinformed.
Ocean made a bold move when he composed and published an open letter about the pressures he faces and struggles he has dealing with his sexuality. He has begun a conversation that has been completely secret for so long.

There’s always one bad/ignorant apple in the bunch. I’m sure Mr. Ocean knew this was coming… *shrugs shoulders*
For a long time there was talk about the DL situation and its possible role in the high HIV infection rate among black women. Lil’ Scrappy may not have been very diplomatic, but how is his statement any different from what was previously discussed on the topic?
I don’t the question is whether or not it’s any different, but how uninformed he is with all the information available now about living with HIV/AIDS. I can’t even be mad at his because it’s self-inflicted ignorance; this what he chooses to believe despite the truth.
pardon my typos… *oops* LOL
This idiot is talking like AIDs is only a gay disease. AIDs knows no boundaries. If you are nasty and dirty and fuck around without taking proper precautions it may very well come for you straight, gay or bi.
Reds, thank you. This young man did not articulate his point properly but what he said was correct. It is because of men who are ‘in the closet’ that are PARTLY to blame for spreading HIV virus. Let’s not put our heads in the sand or make it some kind of homophobic attack. There are far too many black men and women that are infected with the disease and do not tell their partners, particularly, men who are secretly engaging in unprotected sex with other men. PBS frontline is doing a documentary as to why AIDS is spreading rapidly in the black community. Here is the link:
http://www.everydayhealth.com/hiv-aids/aids-in-black-america.aspx?xid=aol_eh-sex_4_20120709_&aolcat=HLT&ncid=webmail4
There’s a grandmother who was infected with the virus after marrying her pastor husband. He knew he had it but kept it a secret from his wife because he didn’t want to ‘lose’ her. Obviously, AIDS is not primarily a gay disease and anyone can get it if they engage in risky behavior. Whether we like it or not, ‘closeted’ men engaged in unprotected sex with men, do spread the virus to unsuspecting women. Women are also at fault because they do not make their partners use condoms for protection. This is extremely serious and we really need to get the information out there.
With all due respect, NYCSoul, that’s NOT lil scrappy said. It may be the short of the long, but imagine someone else reading this that won’t take the liberties you took in interpreting what he said? I just feel if he wants to use his celebrity to make public statement about ANY type of social issues then he should at least “attempt” to educate himself so that he can speak intellgently about the matter at hand. HE SOUNDS LIKE A DAMN FOOL!
Thanks! Because I’m sitting here reading Lil Stupid’s comment..which is expectedly..well..stupid. But the responses from REDS and NYC is a mind boggler.
You’re correct, Lil Stupid didn’t say what either REDS nor NYC said…lack of diplomacy or too much of it.
He said that he’s glad Ocean has come out because it’ll keep AIDS down. Besides the fact that assuming that is as ignorant as assuming that a woman dying will keep the AIDS rate down…It’s also an intellectually inept argument on his part. Women could stop having sex with men w/o condoms, that’ll keep the rate down.
And before anybody goes there, the same way that so many women have condomless sex w/men and have their bastard child…they can also contract HIV.
I expect such from this waste of space (Scrappy) but expected a bit more intelligent thought from you REDS and NYC. Because neither of you much sense.
Mus, what I said made perfect sense. I stated he did not articulate his point properly. The young man is misinformed by simply stating that AIDS is primarily a gay disease. It is not and it was foolish for him to say that. However, the main problem is that there are men who are ‘down low’ engage in unprotected sex with both men and women. There are men out there ‘denying’ their sexuality, too. Obviously, the young man does not realize that those two separate issues: one’s sexual preference & engaging in unprotected sex. But I got what he was trying to say.
It is also the man’s responsbility to wear a condom. Why does that have to be all on the woman? Men need to be responsbile too whether it is protecting themselves from diseases or getting a woman pregnant. This is not 1 sided deal here.
Obviously, you nor Mr. Unapologetic looked at the link I provided. The grandmother in the segment WAS married and still contacted the HIV virus. I presume it’s her fault because she did not make her husband, a grown man, wear a condom?! Before you go on your scurrilous attack about my ‘intelligence’, perhaps you should look at the video. It’s one thing to disagree but it’s quite another to attack me because my opinion does not jive with yours.
However, the main problem is that there are men who are ‘down low’ engage in unprotected sex with both men and women
Is that really? The main problem is the lack of condom use..by women and men. I never suggested that it’s primarily the woman’s responsibility to ensure condom use. But I can tell you this much, if I were a woman, I wouldn’t lay my ass down and let a man go in me raw. Outside of being raped, THAT much a woman can control. Just like SHE can control whether or not she gets pregnant.
There is nothing redeeming about his statement because if you agree that men2men sex is a driving force behind the spread of HIV, nothing about that changes w/Ocean’s coming out because he’ll (presumably) still be having sex w/men. Thus, the spread continues. Lil Stupid’s statement was out of concern for “straight men” and “straight women” contracting HIV. It was not a statement of concern for the spread of the disease.
There is no reason for me to look at the video because I already understand it’s
anedoctal evidence. The same sort of anecdote I can find showing how a man contracted it from a woman.
BTW, I didn’t attack you. I stated that I expected more intelligent thought from you..whether it jived w/my thoughts or not.
@NYCSould. Did you actually READ the whole article or did you stop at the story you repeated. The whole article just tells the story. It then goes into the stigma about HIV in the community. It draws no conclusion about men denying sexuality or secretly engaging in sex with other men. Again those are your inferences. Re-read the article you cite.
Exactly NYCsoul. Black men living on the DL have certainly caused the rise of HIV in black women.
No B*tch women being stupid not to say HELL NO to anyone who tells them they want to do it raw dawg is the reason!
ignorant closet case.
got to get in on this.
NYCSoul. You are somewhat correct that both partners share a responsibility for not using condoms, but the main problem is NOT that there are dl men. That is a problem and probably a major problem.
The main problem is that folks are having unprotected sex. BTW in Africa and elsewhere in the world AIDS is NOT primarily a “gay” disease.
I’m sorry, and not to sound chauvinistic, but it IS your responsibility to care for YOUR body — male OR female. Unless you are being raped, you should have some say as to condom/no condom, pill/no pill. If you choose no condom then you run the risk of pregnancy/std’s. Aids is not the only STD on the rise. Other common ones are coming up too. They are treatable so not as publicized, but they are a gateway to getting HIV.
xavixavi, I did say that in my first post that AIDS is not primarily a gay disease. I said that anybody can get it.
I do agree that it is each individual’s responsibility for their own body. That’s why I stated that why is the onus of responsbility ONLY on women to tell men that they need to have a condom when engaging in sexual activity. I agree that women should not participate if men refuse but men should also be warned that they can still contact HIV if they refuse to wear a condom.
One more thing about “getting what someone is trying to say”. All either of us has to go one is what he actually SAID. Your bias good/bad/indifferent will spin those words to what you want them to mean.
Unfortunately for him, people usually say what they mean. You have to go by his exact words. Anything else is parsing it. Right now, taking him at his word don’t make him sound too good.
The best course of action is to be careful what you say when you are in the public eye. No comment can’t be parsed…Especially when you aren’t asked your opinion.
WOW! Can I get an amen to that.
I’m also having a hard time hearing people “explain” what he meant. No! Let’s deal with what he said. Based on what I’ve read, no one ASKED him his opinion. He, like others, decided to TWEET it. That’s his fault and it’s completely fair to judge him on that and not attempt to spin it into what he didn’t articulate.
xavixavi, there is no place to respond to your other post, so I am doing it here.
“Did you actually READ the whole article or did you stop at the story you repeated. The whole article just tells the story. It then goes into the stigma about HIV in the community. It draws no conclusion about men denying sexuality or secretly engaging in sex with other men. Again those are your inferences. Re-read the article you cite.”
I didn’t only read the article I also listened to the 3 clip excerpts that were posted on the site from the documentary. Did you read the second page of the article? It stated that there is a stigma against homosexuality in the black community. Also it mentioned imprisoned black men who, more than likely, engaged in risky sex in prison. They would not have brought this point up if they were trying to make the inference that part it is part of the issues of the spread of the disease in the black community. It is obvious to me that part of the stigma of HIV-AIDS is the stigma associated as only a white gay man’s disease. That’s why I stated that there are some Black men who are in denial of their sexuality & do engage in unprotected sex, sometimes with both men and women. This does not negate sharing needles or blood transfusions, of course.
Surely, they would not create a documentary with simply talking about the stigma of HIV-AIDS in the black community. They will more than likely cite what are these stigmas are and what they are associated with.
I don’t understand why some Black men are so intent in denying that part of the HIV-AIDS crisis is not only because Black women have unprotected sex but some Black men are as well but sometimes, with both sexes. Lesbians have a lower chance of contracting the virus. So again, the inference is there that part of the problem is some Black men engaging in sexual activity with men, sometimes secretly, then have sex with women. To me, the inference to me is that sexual activity is partly the culprit in the transmission of the HIV virus.
I don’t understand why some Black men are so intent in denying that part of the HIV-AIDS crisis is not only because Black women have unprotected sex but some Black men are as well but sometimes, with both sexes.
Really? When did black men start denying that “dl” men are “responsible” for the spread of HIV? That’s a new one for me.
To me, the inference to me is that sexual activity is partly the culprit in the transmission of the HIV virus
And here it is again, the ACT is to blame and not the lack of precautions taken. It’s like saying that driving a motorcyle caused his death..while failing to acknowledge that his head trauma could’ve been negated had he worn a helmet.
Since we ran out of room I couldn’t reply. But now I’m sitting here wondering the same thing @NYC.
Did you read the whole article? And if so, why did you extrapolate the first few paragraphs and then still believe there was some merit to Lil Stupid’s argument? Where is the downlow problem discussed in the article?
Like seriously folks, talking about the DL is not rocket science. It’s not like someone needs to do a dissertation explaining the alleged link between that life style and HIV infection in women. We all should know by now that the gay lifestyle allows for the easiest route of transmission of the virus to a male. On the other hand, it’s much harder for a man to get the virus from a woman. But it’s very easy for a woman to get it from a man. So the argument is simply if we eliminate the possibility of a woman engaging with a man who is on the DL, the infection to women will be reduced. That’s EXACTLY what Lil’ Scrappy said, in much fewer words.
For all we know, there would never have been an AIDs epidemic among heterosexuals if there was never such a thing as the DL lifesytle. If they all wore a tag as Tameka suggested, then the infection may have never left their group.
Reds, there are trifling men and women out there who engage in unprotected sex. I’ve also read exactly what you posted, that the transmission of the disease is easier from man to woman or man to man, than woman to man or woman to woman. Men who have the HIV virus are carriers of the disease.
Lil Scrappy’s comments sound stupid but I got what he said. I re-read his comment several times to get the gist of where he was coming from before I even commented on the story.
The “gist” was that now Ocean won’t be sleeping with women, the spread of AIDS will wane.
You’ve just written a whole day about how men having sex with men is more responsible for the spread.
So how will the spread have stopped?
What you’re saying is illogical.
OMG scrappy…throwing stones arent we?? The man came out and said he was bisexual, or gay, not that he was HIV. He wanted to sharehis personal sexuallity with the world, or probably was being blackmailed and he came out of his closet. The HIV rate is high because of ignorance and possibly laziness among us black folks, and of course not being honest with your partner about your status. Hate on this comment if you want, but Im a nurse who works in the ER clinic in a metro city. Do you know how many stories I’ve heard from women who finds out that they have some type of disease or is pregnate about why they weren’t using protection?? Too damm many, and its the lamest excuse ever…like “the clinic wanted me to come in too early in the morning and I dont get up til 3pm!”…and this comes from a female who was recently diagnosed with HIV, and the clinic…2 blocks from her house.
….and when I say “throwing stones”…now how many times have you hit something “raw”??
On the other hand, it’s much harder for a man to get the virus from a woman.
So it’s easier for a man to gonorrhea from a woman than it is HIV?
For all we know, there would never have been an AIDs epidemic among heterosexuals if there was never such a thing as the DL lifesytle
I would imagine that there wouldn’t be an AIDS epidemic among heterosexuals if people wore condoms?
It’s funny how the idea of WEARING CONDOMS always falls out of the picture when discussing sex. That is:
These trifling men are wrong and irresponsible for impregnating boatloads of women. Men are why so many are born out of wedlock. No condoms.
These trifling men who have sex (sans condoms) w/these vulnerable women are responsible for the transmission of STD’s.
In both instances, we know for fact that condoms can prevent both pregnacies AND STD’s. But let’s blame men anyway. We’re the one’s who have to wear them.

Thank you for posting this. I hope that the documentary will also use the cdc’s findings in their report. Thanks again!
Look folks, you might think Lil’ Scrappy was tripping, but he raised a deadly serious topic. The DL lifestyle is killing off black men and women.
See CDC link above.
In 2009, black men accounted for 70% of the estimated new HIV infections among all blacks.
In 2009, black men who have sex with men (MSM) represented an estimated 73% of new infections among all black men, and 37% among all MSM. More new HIV infections occurred among young black MSM (aged 13–29) than any other age and racial group of MSM. In addition, new HIV infections among young black MSM increased by 48% from 2006–2009.
In 2009, black women accounted for 30% of the estimated new HIV infections among all blacks. Most (85%) black women with HIV acquired HIV through heterosexual sex.
The question is how many of that 85% were from men on the DL.
like Arthur replied I am shocked that a student able to earn $9035 in four weeks on the internet. have you seen this web link NuttÿRîçhDÖtcom
Entertainers that are heterosexuals do not “come out” and make announcements that the are straight or heterosexual. What I don’t understand i why entertainers like Frank Ocean and other gays, lesbians, bi-sexual always feel the need to make public announcements to the world about their particular sexuality? Really it’s no ones business who you go to bed with, or wake up with. Making such announcement lets see if his career survives.
muzyk, I think they make these announcements because it’s now fashionable to align themselves with the Velvet Mafia and to help others to accept their orientation without shame.
A very good point made.
Frank Ocean has made it known that he’s bi-sexual, and received an ugly response from Lil’ Scrappy. Well, unfortunately that’s something to be expected.
Queen Pen, Monifa, Da Brat, Mc Lyte, Queen Latifa, Me’shell Ndegecello, Tevin Campbell, Chingy and Freddie Jackson have basically at one time or another face the same thing as Frank Ocean.
Posting all this CDC shit is a way to say you’re a HOMOPHOBE PERIOD! Here’s a tip you don’t want HIV…Wear a DAMN CONDOM and the CDC will not have to post those stats for you use as a ways to support your HOMPHOBIC feelings dummy!
