This is destined to b a fkn DISASTER!

  2. Ur.Hi-Nes says:

I will not compare him to either Morgan Freeman or Idris Elba – There is no comparison. These two men have had experience in doing serious roles. Tyler Perry has not had much experience with that but I’m glad he has the opportuntiy to show another side in Alex Cross. I think he will do well, because I know he will do his best. You can’t ask for more than that. Do your thing TP and God bless

I don’t know, but I’ve been saving two movie passes I won at work for something worthy! Can’t wait to see this.

  4. Cade Foster says:

Not a Tyler Perry fan, but I’m interested as to how this will be received. I’m sure he was picked because of name recognition. After all its all about making money and TP has a legion of fans that will go to the movies to see him in anything!

  5. Cappaucino says:

I saw this preview in the theatres and I laughed the whole time, it was like watching Madea get mad rotfl. Still I will watch but would have rather seen Idris

  6. Cade Foster says:

“Cappaucino” that’s the thing, you can’t get the picture of Madea out of your mind. A good actor becomes the part, Tyler’s got to overcome his alter-ego Madea. I don’t think he has the acting chops to do that.
Tyler just doesn’t have that “presence” on camera that Idris and Morgan have. I won’t go to the movies to see it but I will watch when the dvd comes out.

    • Cappaucino says:

I agree, his presence isn’t that strong to make me forget Madea. I thiink he may have type cast himself. But I may give it a try.

Hate to say this but looks great!!!!!

First of all, I AM a Tyler Perry fan. Before that, I was a James Patterson fan and as such, know a lot about Alex Cross. As for forgetting Morgan Freeman (who I love and respect as an actor), that’s not a problem. Those of us who are Patterson fans were horrified when he was chosen for the role in the earlier films. He was too old to be Cross from the beginning. Idris Elba would, no doubt, have been a good Cross and granted, both he and Freeman have more dramatic experience than Tyler Perry. To suggest, however, that he can only play Madea is ridiculous. He has already played other characters in films he has produced and indeed, even in those movies where he was Madea as well! Physically, he IS perfect for Cross. Not only does he fit the description of the character in the books well, but James Patterson himself has approved Perry for the role and has stated same. (Nothing like having the author and creator of the character approve you!) Those who only see Tyler Perry as Madea and don’t like her will probably fight against changing their minds, but hopefully, others will give him and the movie a chance. As someone who likes Tyler AND Alex, I’m excitedly looking forward to it!

Well said, Jaygirl. I’m actually looking forward to seeing this… I saw the trailer in the movie theater as well and it definitely peaked my curiousity. I’m certain TP has done his best with this. I think that’s all one can really ask of him.

    • As a diehard Alex Cross fan who has read practically all of the books in the series, I disagree with Jaygirl’s assessment of Tyler Perry matching Alex Cross’ description physically. From book one, James Patterson described Alex Cross as a young-looking Muhammad Ali. Hello!!! Muhummad Ali has a fairer complexion and is a few inches shorter than TP’s 6’5″. TP from a physical perspective matches Sampson, Alex Cross’ best frined, who is described as darker and 6’5″. I also think because of TP’s limited acting ability, yeah I wrote it, that Sampson would have been the better character for him to play because Sampson isn’t the primary the character nor does he have much dialogue.

Also, it should be noted that Idris Elba was offered the role of Alex Cross. James Patterson himself publicized it via his newsletter of which I’m a subscriber. This announcement was picked up via media outlets, of which Essence was one that ran the story. Then a few months later, Tyler Perry was announced as Alex Cross. My first thought was — “WTF? Have the producers lost their minds.”

For those of us who love and hold the Alex Cross character and books near and dear, the majority of us ain’t none too happy about TP playing Alex Cross. I hope he does a good job, but I’m not holding my breath because I have never considered TP an actor but moreso an entertainer. The role of Alex Cross needs to be played by someone who can act…’nuff said.

      • jaygirl says:

You are absolutely right, MzTee about the Muhammad Ali reference. That’s exactly what I was thinking of when I said that about the physical appearance. I remember it well. That’s why I was SO shocked when Morgan Freeman was chosen to play Alex Cross in the earlier films! I wasn’t suggesting that Tyler Perry met ALL the criteria (a young version of Muhammad Ali) and I don’t think it has to be THAT detailed for a role. I don’t doubt that he would have made a good Sampson, too. I also am aware that Idris was being considered for the role at one point. Having said that, as one of many who also “love and hold the Alex Cross character and books near and dear,” I don’t think you can adequately speak for a majority who aren’t happy about the choice of Tyler Perry for the part of Alex Cross—unless there is a poll out there that I’m not familiar with. I think Tyler is DEVELOPING as an actor and maybe some think he should have done other parts before taking on the well-loved Alex Cross, but I think you are being unnecessarily harsh about his talents. Maybe AFTER the movie is released and there is more than the trailer, you can put on your critic’s cap and share more.

    • musbdherbs says:

Uhmmm, what dramatic role Tyler has had that was anything close to impressive? His absolutely subpar performance in Good Deeds? Surely that’s not the example you reference.

Tyler is a C-list actor. Best performed in a BET arabesque film.

      • LOL! @ musbdherbs – you’ve been knocking me out for years here, your comments are always so funny. I guess the box office will tell if they can accept Tyler Purry without the mammy prosthetics and wigs n’ things. *sighs a weary, weary sigh*

  9. I am a big Alex Cross fan so Tyler Perry better not mess this up!!

  10. beatrice says:

I agree with jaygirl, Im a big fan of James Patterson, I’ve read all his books….. And have all Alex Cross books, I think Tyler P. Will do a great job, there’s more 2 the man then Madea, I’d met Tyler years ago at one of his plays, the man is just so nice, that’s why his fans including me will go see his movies.

  11. babycakes says:

I too am I huge James Patterson fan and the Alex Cross novels are my favorite I hope Tyler does a fairly decent job as Alex Cross, it would be nice ot see him really do an good job so he can get away form the Madea character for a bit.

  12. nightshift says:

I have never heard of Alex Cross series or otherwise. .no really, I haven’t . . .while Morgan would have been great, he’s too damn old and the wife would have reminded me of his granddaughter (LoL). Don’t think I’ll ride on this pony. And I do like TP.
