*If you’ve paid any attention to Newark, NJ mayor Cory Booker, a democrat, it would come as no surprise to hear that he has his eyes set on running for governor in 2013.
And that means going up against the big guy, Republican Chris Christie, the current governor.
The word comes courtesy a Democratic county chairman.
The chairman, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the county’s executive committee hasn’t yet been told the news, met with Booker last week. The chairman said Booker requested the meeting, told him he is considering running for governor and will make a final decision by December.
The chairman said Booker has talked to other county chairs about his potential plans.
“He has reached out,” the chairman said. “He said he’s weighing a possible run and he’ll decide by December.”
Booker disputed that he was disclosing possible plans to county chairs, a development first reported by politickernj.com on Thursday.
He told WBGO FM’s “Newark Today” on Thursday night that he was canvassing the state and country to help re-elect President Barack Obama. Booker, who is co-chairman of the national Democratic Party’s platform committee, will speak at the party’s national convention next month.

I wouldn’t trust this turn-coat as far as I could throw ten elephants with two broken arms. He’s a tool of the republican party who is too palsy-walsy with gov. Christy the Jersey Pillsbury Dough Boy. He reminds me of Harold Ford Jr. who lied during his campaign and said his Grandmother was white to get the hill billy vote. He’d sell us down the plank for thirty pieces of silver. Fanteeking
@ David, you just shut my mouth just as I was about to open it. I was about comment that as an outsider looking in…not from the great state of Jersey…he seems like a stand up guy. I watched the show on IFC & thought he was “down for the people” & he seemed genuine even as he was faced with heartbreaking decisions of the city. I will definetly do more research on ole Corey especially since I read somewhere he has high hopes & aspirations for national political offices. Thanx.
