D.C. Schools Encourage At Risk Students by Offering Money to Attend Summer Program

   

Students Studying*The drop-out rate in schools in America has been a problem for many years. It has been an equally tremendous problem in pinpointing a solution.

But, it seems that one thing that young people have always responded to at home is being used at school…allowance.

In Washington, D.C., the public schools are trying out an experiment in offering students money to further education through a summer program called, “Summer Bridge.”

The offer is for those 9th graders that are identified as “less likely than their peers” to graduate on time according to the Huffington Post report quoting the Washington Examiner. (more…)

  1. Not good to pay children to go to school, they should have split it up, go to school a day then work a day that way they learn good work ethics [earn your money honestly] and academics. I bet it will work.

  2. Well why the hell not? They pay athletes to attend certain colleges…but it’s clled SCHOLARSHIPs — they offer certain minorities first dibs at attending schools…they call that AFFIRMATIVE ACTION — it’s just a rose by another name… Whatever it takes to educate underachieving students, one thing they all understand whether they are smart as a whip or dumb as a doornob–is MONEY–it’s’ not like they’re giving these kids 500.00 a week… buy a few dollars in their pockets to make them fell a little pride..ain’t gonna hurt; i was at first agains this whole thing…what made us go to school was to learn…either that or Mama’s belt! lololol (for some)– Let’s see how it works before we just say ‘squash it’ — if it doesn’t work…then at
    least we can say ‘we tried…” — and u know what they say…nothing beats a failure but… hmm wish they’d paid ME to put up with them nuns all my life LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO .. but pretty much i’m getting paid to come here everyday too…it’s called a JOB! Everone isn not gonna agree…that’s cool…freedom of speech and all that!
