Gabby Douglas Gets a Famous Hairstylist

gabby douglas*Now that she’s got the gold, she’s going for the look.

Yes, Gabby Douglas is getting rid of the bad weave and becoming a real superstar with good hair and all.

The teenage gymnast has been harshly criticized for her hair.

But that’s all in the past now. Her new hairdresser, Ted Gibson (pictured below), is going to hook the girl up with a new do.

After enduring the critiques of the public, mostly women of color, Gibson said he was simply floored by the mean commentary.

“I couldn’t believe it and still can’t,” Gibson told Allison Samuels of the Daily Beast. “You have this young girl doing amazing things, and the conversation becomes about her hair? It was ridiculous and shameful.”

He added that there’s a strange complex among African American women when it comes to hair.

“Women of color spend millions and millions of dollars on their hair to look good, so we know how seriously we take the issue of hair,” he says. “Oprah Winfrey told me once when I was on her show that ‘our hair is our crowning glory.’ I have to say I agree with Oprah.”

Check out the full interview with the stylist at the Daily Beast.

I seen Gabby on Americas’s Got Talent last night and if the hairstyle she had was from Mr Gibson then he did a bad job her hair looked better before just my two cents. PS. ENOUGH about Gabby’s already!!! My Goodness!!!!

If anyone knows where I can find all these negative comments about Gabby’s hair please post a link. I have not seen any of the evidence our ‘enemies’ are constantly laying at the feet of Black women and would like to if it these comments exist at all. It sickens me that a cottage industry has sprung up around this girl’s hair and it all seems contrived to me. Now this queen is weighing in with his indictment as well. This BS is only keeping the hatred of Black women percolating in the hearts of those who do not mean us a damn bit of good anyway.

You don’t have to blame our “enemies”…but our friends. The first such story of Gabby’s hair was posted on a black blog reporting on tweets from…indeed..black women.

Talk to ya sistas about this one because THEY got this ball rolling and the rest of black america retweeted…refacebooked…and reEUR’d the story.

      • MelodyCool says:

I bet your dumb azz hasn’t seen a screenshot of the tweets either…yet you run with this blanket generalization of Black women. We despise each other enough as it is without buying into lies to exacerbate the hatred. In your case, you only weigh in with BS against Black women in hopes that it will distract the public from all the negatively raining down on you. Weak azz mofo!

  3. @MelodyCool, it was a small few who made comments on Twitter about her hair and the media attached themselves to these few comments and has made this stupid story more than it should be.

    • MelodyCool says:

music, I haven’t even seen screenshots of these tweets…have you? This is really fcuked up because our enemies keep trying to detract from Gabby’s accomplishments by tarnishing Black women. It makes me despise those who try to make us responsible for what one or two people ‘may’ have said. I already have my speech ready for any non-Black that comes in my face trying to project this debacle on to Black womanhood. I will tell them while it’s a ‘fact’ they love boinking underage boys there is no evidence Black women are ganging up on Gabby trying to put her down and diminish her achievements.

Good to know others do recognize this shyt is bogus!!!!

You are the one who started this whole bogus and offensive controversy, Allison. You owe an apology to Gabby, women of color, TDB and the world.
