The Lee Daniels-directed film has Oprah Winfrey, Lenny Kravitz, Cuba Gooding Jr., John Cusack, Robin Williams, and James Marsden among its star-studded cast.
In addition to reteaming with her “Precious” director, Carey also shared a sneak peek of her forthcoming music video “Triumphant (Get ‘Em)” last night on BET’s “106 & Park.” [Scroll down to watch.]
As previously reported, Mariah’s also prepping for her first season of “American Idol” as rumors swirl about her being against Nicki Minaj joining her at the judging panel.

DO YOU MEAN TO TELL US THAT SOME JACK ASS CAST MARIAH CAREY AS A SLAVE AND THAT THEY THINK THAT THIS IS A BELIEVABLE ROLE? WHO HAS THE MONEY TO WASTE AND WHAT KIND OF MENTAL PROBLEM HAS THIS FOOL BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH? IS THIS CLASSIFIED AS A COMEDY OR PURE OUT AND OUT FICTION?
My great aunts were from the south and all became maids in the north. If they wanted to do a movie about them they’d have to cast Mariah, Halle, Beyonce and Alicia. (yes they were good looking women) It takes most white people I tell this to a minute to process it cause I’m dark skinned and they assume I have no white blood in the family tree. As young girls they picked cotton.
MOst slaves were on smaller family run farms not big ole plantations so from an economic stand point harvest time was not the time to get color conscious. All hands, light and dark were needed to bring in the cotton.
And remember who was documenting the slave’s history. White women did not want to be reminded of their husbands/sons/brothers brutal rape and assault of white women (nor of the consensual relationships between white men and Black women) So therefore, few photos of light skinned slaves readily available.
Good job Lee, Mariah IS accurate casting. What’s done in the dark comes to light – pun intended!
