*You know Lupe Fiasco wasn’t going to sit on his heels while D.L. Hughley criticized the rapper on Hot 93.7.
Earlier this week – as we reported – Hughley expressed his contempt for Lupe’s decision against voting.
“He’s bright as hell, but dumb in the ways of the world,” Hughley told Hot 93.7/Hartford. “Young black men are going to listen to him. They are the ones who have decisions made for them, [decisions] that they are not even involved in, which is silly to me.”
Well, the super opinionated rapper took to Twitter to defend his actions, or lack thereof.
@LupeFiasco: “Better yet @RealDlHughley you put up 50k and I’ll put up 50k and let’s flesh out some programs for rural & inner city youths our damn selves.”
@LupeFiasco: “Obama need swing states and white people not radical rappers kissing his ass to win this election…”
He ended his arguments with a challenge to Hughley.
@LupeFiasco: “When you ready to drop that bread for these babies out here @RealDlHughley holla at me…til then #LeeMeAlone”

“Obama need swing states and white people not radical rappers kissing his ass to win this election…”
Speak the truth and shame the devil, Lupe.
It’s always been an ass kissing game with the black man being left out of the loop. You got Obama kissing Republicans ass to get white people in swing states to vote for him, never having to worry about addressing the concerns of blacks, knowing that most of us like D.L. Hughley will vote straight Democrat. That’s why he continues waging their wars and signing abominable legislations like NDAA.
As DL said: ”They are the ones who have decisions made for them, [decisions] that they are not even involved in, which is silly to me.”
And that’s exactly Lupe’s point. Whether you vote for the Democrats or the Republicans, the same decisions are being made which negatively impacts the lives of black youths. There is still massive incarceration and employment discrimination with not targeted programs to combat it. As Obama says, “a rising tide lifts all boat”, which is exactly the argument used by the Republicans for not doing anything about these disproportionate rates of unemployment. They flatly say that targeted programs like affirmative action is “un-American.”
Shame on blacks like DL and the apologists on this site who continue to defend that argument with the tired phrase that “he’s the president of America, not black America.”
Really?!
So if he’s acting as the president of All America, why we still end up getting the shorter end of the stick?
Man, don’t even worry about us not voting for him. It’s our prerogative, given the status quo. What you need to do is start challenging the Democrats to address the concerns of blacks, that is if they really care about people like Lupe voting for them.
If you are looking for direction from an elected official then you will never get what you want. Lupe, at the end of his tweet put down the challenge that is important here. He say put your own money up or shut up. We as Black people need to truly value and fully understand what our vote means before we decide who we are voting for. The responsibility is on us not for Democrats or Republicans to tell us or pander to us.
Reds, You can’t be serious! But I am sure that you are. You do the math! At 12% percent of the population and getting smaller, unfortunately we live in a white world and a soon-to-be Latino and Asian one. Blacks vote for whatever party gives us the best possible option. At least, some of us vote. While I appreciate your knowledge of the black male incarceration rate, a lot it comes from the single parent home (most often female) that we insist on placing on pedestal and just poor decision making.
Obama and his wife are the products of an educational system that some of us wish not get involved in on any level. Obama defeated Hillary Clinton in the primaries because he did the math and was able to read and comprehend the game.
Turkey dinners and pickup basketball are not going to do it for the African American community, neither will $50,000 each from a rapper and a comedian.
I don’t know that much about Lupe Fiasco, but he may not even be eligible to vote in some states — I think you get my drift. A lot this sounds like attitude picked up in the slammer. You might know more about his situation than I do. Just remember one other thing, blacks do not employ blacks, that meal has to come from some one.
You mentioned targeted programs, sadly we are a people in the cross hairs of each other. The targeted programs need to start in our own homes, whether we like it or not.
Why can’t we do both? I don’t understand this notion that you can’t have both a Martin Luther King and a Malcom X approach. If I choose to do grassroots work, does that mean I shouldn’t vote? Why can’t we work inside and outside of the system? One doesn’t negate the other, but just gives us a stronger powerbase.
Hey, that’s what I’m talking about. We work inside the system, casting our votes, while expecting something in return. But it seems whenever someone try to make that point, we are reminded of how evil the Republicans are, while forgetting the short comings of the Democrats.
We don’t need to be reminded of who the Republicans are. We just want a response from the Democrats. What have you done for me lately?
Thank you lupe now lets see the cash flow get the media involved and donate yours and lets put a fire under mr hugely tail so he can do the same
Well, it appears as if DL Hughley will be voting for President Obama and Lupe Fiasco will not vote at all. It also appears as if Lupe Fiasco talked about donating $50K for inner city programs, but will not actually DO anything. So, at the end of the day, DL Hughley wins this one IMO. At least DL will be DOING something…voting. Meanwhile…Lupe Fiasco appears to be just TALK.
