*Lee Daniels is reportedly in talks to direct one of two biopics in the works on legendary rocker Janis Joplin.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Precious” helmer is negotiating to direct a project starring Amy Adams as the 1960s rock and blues star, who died at age 27 from a drug overdose in 1970.
“City of God” filmmaker Fernando Meirelles had initially been tapped to direct the project in 2010, but movie producers later approached “Twilight’s” Catherine Hardwicke. Daniels, currently filming “The Butler” in New Orleans, has become the latest name attached to the film, which will share the title of Joplin’s hit song “Get It While You Can.”
Production is due to begin early next year.
Tony Award-winning star Nina Arianda is also set to portray Joplin in a rival film titled “Janis.”
