*Here’s an interesting development. It’s kind of bombshell, actually.
On Friday, a Nevada judge agreed to reopen the armed robbery and kidnapping case against actor and former football star O.J. Simpson to determine if he was so badly represented by his lawyers that he should be freed from prison and get another trial, reports the AP via the Washington Post.
Simpson wasn’t in a Las Vegas courtroom while Clark County District Court Judge Linda Marie Bell agreed to hear evidence and consider 18 of 22 questions cited in a May appeal by Simpson appeals lawyer Patricia Palm.
The judge dismissed four other grounds on which the 65-year-old Simpson seeks release from state prison, where he is serving nine to 33 years.
The development could put Simpson on the witness stand for the first time. He stood trial in 2008 after authorities said he led five men, including two with guns, in a September 2007 confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers and a middleman in a cramped room at a Las Vegas casino-hotel.
The judge also granted a waiver of attorney-client privilege on questions in dispute between Simpson and his trial lawyer, Yale Galanter.

I’m no fan of OJ and his stupidity, but I’m wondering what would happen if a white athlete use a gun to go after some black sport memorabilia dealers who were in possession of his stolen property.
Would he even get charged, much more get 33 years?
Simpson also claims he was never advised that the Clark County district attorney offered a pretrial deal that could have gotten Simpson two to five years in prison for pleading guilty to robbery. Palm says Simpson would have taken the offer.
At the very least he should be given a new trial.

It is outrageous that O.J. Simpson is doing even a second in the slammer. Even if he’s an acquitted murderer (I think he was framed, but that’s another story). Let’s just concentrate on this “robbery” and “kidnapping:”
As you all know, Simpson gathered a posse of six to reclaim merchandise that was stolen from him by his former agent, and sold to two fences. Meanwhile, a man with an extensive criminal record (the fences had records,too) set the whole thing up. Simpson attended a wedding in Vegas; how would he know his merchandise was being sold there had this whole thing not been arranged, with the sold purpose of setting up a sting operation?
Meanwhile, the guy who set this up, Thomas Riccio, was granted immunity from prosecution. One of the fences was briefly jailed — on a parole violation (he didn’t get permission from his probation officer to travel from California to Nevada); they were not prosecuted for theft, receiving stolen property, etc.) Of Simpson’s friends, all except one accepted plea deals and got suspended sentences, including the fellow who supposedly had a gun. The guy who went to trial along with O.J. got a stiff sentence which was later overturned in court and converted to time served.
The only purpose of this trial was to “get” Simpson for the murders for which he was acquitted. If you or I stole back our own stuff, we’d get at most an admonition from the judge, and maybe community service in contemplation of dismissal.
The judge who threw the book at Simpson is now a TV judge. Judge Judy she ain’t.
I’m a fan of O.J. Simpson and I do hope he gets out of prison and turn his life around and go in seclusion and lay low and get thoses trashy white women out of his life. Not a damn one of them that hung onto him during his life as former athlete wasn’t of any value to him.
