*Now this is a doggone shame if true.
Sharmeka Moffitt, a 20-year-old Louisiana woman who claimed three men set her on fire and wrote the initials KKK and a racial slur on her car, may have made up her story, authorities said Tuesday.
They believe she may have caused her on third degree burns and fabricated the attack.
Moffitt called 911 Sunday evening from a walking trail in Winnsboro and told authorities she was doused in flammable liquid by three men wearing white hoodies. She suffered extensive burns on more than half her body and was taken to LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport for treatment.
After two days of investigation, authorities said evidence showed that she apparently set herself on fire, CBS affiliate KSLA reported. Winnsboro Police Chief Lester Thomas said Tuesday afternoon that authorities linked Moffitt’s fingerprints to a lighter and a bottle of lighter fluid found at the scene.
“The investigation (of) Ms. Moffitt has revealed that this was not an attack but a self-inflicted incident that happened to her,” Thomas said in a news conference.

I knew this story sounded a little out there. If it is true that she fabricated it, then that shows that there is something seriously wrong with her. It sounds like she is suffering from some type of mental illness. You have to have a lot of guts to set yourself on fire. I hope she recovers and get the help she needs. At least, she did blamed the KKK. Not like those whites who kill their wives/kids and blame it on black men.

No, it isn’t. The Ku Klux Klan isn’t exactly a civic organization. It’s racist to begin with. When a man or woman kills her child/ren and blames on a group of people (namely black men), black men are usually harassed and picked up as suspects until the case is solved (Remember Susan Smith and Charles Stewart?) Have you seen any white men harasses or picked as a suspect by police? This woman was looking for attention. The only person she harmed was herself. Not innocence people.

And Tawana Brawley says what?? Out of how many cases where whites have blamed blacks consistently? I didn’t say what she did was right but the point is that the KKK being blamed is not something that gets me outraged about. Blaming innocent people is different than blaming a group that has murdered blacks for decades. Nothing ‘baloney’ about that.

this whole news story had me skeptical.. i pray she gets the help she needs .. she is definitly in need .. anyone who would set themselves ON FIRE… yeah definitly she needs some serious help.. prayers to her an her family
This story has a familiar ring to it, I wonder what was her motive behind all this? I’m glad the authorities were able to minimize this story before it got out of hand based on lies. Hope she recovers, thoughts and prayers are with Sharmeka and family.
Ok, I wont say exactly what I want to say, but this is so shameful to me as a black woman…its difficult enough to get respect as black people and the everyday fight we face with subliminal racism…she needs to be slapped, then admitted….such a shame
