Venus Williams Stars in Ava DuVernay Directed Doc for ESPN

*Filmmaker Ava DuVernay (“Middle of Nowhere”) will direct tennis star Venus Williams in a project titled, “Venue VS.”

Described as “an in-depth documentary that explores tennis star Venus Williams’ fight for fair pay at Wimbledon,” the film is one of 9 projects to come out of the ESPN Films series of documentaries that will debut in the spring and summer of 2013; and highlight women in sports. The docs will be directed by women filmmakers.

“Venus VS”  is produced by DuVernay and Howard Barish, with Robin Roberts, and Jane Rosenthal executive producing.

Both DuVernay and Venus Williams will be present at the Toronto International Film Festival - DuVernay for the international premiere of “Middle Of Nowhere,” and Venus Williams will be seen in Maiken Baird’s ”Venus And Serena” feature documentary, which will give audiences an honest and unfiltered look into the lives of the sisters and tennis legends.
