*Los Angeles – L. A. LIVE ushered in the Holiday Season in grand style on an overcast, cold day,Wednesday,November 28th.
It is amazing that rain fell in other parts of Los Angeles, but not during the program at L.A. LIVE. I wondered if weatherman Fritz Coleman said that “it was going to be like this.”
Thousands gathered at L.A. LIVE for the 5th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony and the opening of LA Kings Holiday Ice during the most wonderful time of the year in the City of Angels.
A variety of celebrities were in attendance to partake in the hour long, live holiday celebration to “unofficially” launch Los Angeles’s holiday season. This was a free show that was broadcast live on NBC4.The event also kicked off AEG’s Season of Giving.
People were already stationed in front of the stage adorned in a sea of Santa’s hats courtesy of NBC4. Top notched entertainers performed classic sounds of the season,to set the mood for the holiday season.Cody Simpson performed a rockin’ version of “Jingle Bells” to start the program to the delight of his legions of young, screaming, cheering fans. Sensational a cappella group Take 6 followed with additional festive sounds. The show continued with Jessarae performing several tunes.
Also on the line-up were Sarah Brightman, Los Angeles’ own Ozomatli, neo-soul singer Eric Benet accompanied by saxophonist Boney James. The Canadian Tenors added to our enjoyment of the show. Several highlights were featured to closed out the show. I thoroughly enjoyed the collaboration featuring Monica Mancini on vocals, backed by Latin jazz virtuoso Arturo Sandoval on trumpet along with Take 6. Imagine the possibilities of future projects. Barry Manilow concluded the show on a high note by singing “Santa Claus is Coming To Town” followed by one of his timeless, classic hits “Copacabana” that had the “older” members of the crowd joining him in a sing-a-long.
The centerpiece of the event was the Nokia Plaza L.A. LIVE’s new 66-foot artificial Sequoia tree with more than 120,000 cool white LED mini lights, placed in the center of the ice rink. The evening got brighter and brighter with the season’s first complete lighting of festive holiday lights displayed along streets throughout the L.A. LIVE district comprising of more than 75,000 festive holiday lights that adorn 50 ten-foot angels in addition to more than 265,000 snowfall LED lights covering 150 trees.I’m sure that the festive decorations and lights around L.A. LIVE district will find their way on many holiday greeting cards and Facebook pages worldwide.
Everyone knows that L.A. LIVE is the destination of choice for people seeking top notch sporting events, world class musical entertainment, the latest blockbuster movies and fine cuisine. This popular, hip spot and the LA Kings Holiday Ice presented by Coca Cola has expanded to become the largest outdoor ice skating rink in Los Angeles. The 132″ x 80′ outdoor ice skating rink located within Nokia Plaza L.A. LIVE, is nearly twice the size of previous rinks, and offers the perfect holiday outing for locals and visitors alike. The rink will be open until January 2nd, 2013. As mentioned earlier,in its fourth year, AEG’s Season of Giving is an initiative designed to raise funds and generate awareness in support of non-profit organizations working on issues of hunger, homelessness and healthcare. During the month of December, a different non-profit organization will be highlighted during a brief program at the Los Angeles Kings Holiday Ice at L.A. LIVE.
NBC4 weatherman Fritz Coleman launched his Holiday Home Decoration Showcase. He will travel around Los Angeles in a festive double-decker bus to various homes throughout the city to broadcast his weather segment and to put a spotlight on the amazing homes that has a tremendous holiday light display.
