A desperate mother who gave her now famed son up for adoption, now sits in the stands, hoping that one day Colin Kaepernick will finally see her.
Heidi Russo interviewed with Yahoo! Sports, sharing her heart touching story about adoption and redemption.
For years, Russo has been watching her son grow up and mature in his craft as a quarterback, first at the University of Nevada and now as a star with the 49ers.
“I watch him now and I see how happy he is and I’m thrilled for him,” said Russo, who said “I have to respect” his decision not to meet.
But she somehow finds comfort in that he’s happy and doing well.
“You can see that everything he wants and everything he has worked for is coming together,” she said. “That’s something that any parent would be happy to see for their child.”
According to Kaepernick’s agent, he’s exchanged a few tweets with her, but most of her messages have gone unanswered. The football player’s adoptive parents (though the family doesn’t subscribe to the term) are supportive of whatever he decides.

His biological mother severely comprises her credibility and makes folks question her motives by allowing herself to be interviewed.
If old boy told her he doesn’t want to meet her, she needs to respect his decision and keep it moving. Maybe she didn’t seek out the media and they found her because we know how unscrupulous the media can be; but, she should have refused the request to be interviewed. Some things don’t need to be commented on.
So he seems bi-racial. Did she give him up because of that? Just asking..no judgement?
Did she try and reach out to him before he was drafted by the NFL? At this point, there is no reason to allow her to squirm her way into his life so that she can sell him a sob story about being a poor white woman pressured to give up her black son. She should just go about her business. His REAL mother raised him.
