‘Don’t Sleep’ Host T.J. Holmes: ‘My Fate Was Sealed at Birth’

by Cherie Saunders

*The show may have downsized from five nights a week to one, but BET’s “Don’t Sleep” continues to fight the good fight with CNN transplant and West Memphis, Arkansas native Loutelious “T.J.” Holmes at the helm.

The journalist, 35, says there are aspects other than his real name that viewers have yet to discover.

“I’m a University of Arkansas grad, got my broadcast journalism degree, spent three years in Little Rock, chasing around Governor Huckabee, went to NBC out in the Bay Area for a few years, CNN for 5 years. And now I get to sit here in this room with you fine folks talking about the next venture in my career,” Holmes told us during interviews for “Don’t Sleep,” which now airs on Wednesdays at 11 p.m.

Below, Holmes explains why his fate “was sealed at birth.”

Gayle K….unfortunately I’ll have to agree with you. I was really looking forward to Don’t Sleep, and have tried to be an avid viewer. However, it seems like an adult version of 106 & Park, except without the music. I must admit there was one show that I applaud that was on Chicago gang violence. More of that in-depth reporting would help the viewers especially the 18-24 crowd….my son 19 yr old son was impressed.

      • Well, we know Gayle is trying to start some shit. But I wouldn’t feel too secure if I was him. You don’t leave CNN for BET if you want the opportunity to do a show that will have a lasting impact on your community. You never know when them white people over at BET will pull the plug. I never trusted those mofos since they took over and cancelled Teen Summit and ran Tavis out of town.
They will only accommodate him and his passion for making a difference for so long. If he had gone to TV1 instead, that would make way more sense.
