*The only child of late Kansas City Chief’s linebacker, Jovan Belcher, is now entitled to receive her dad’s million-dollar fortune.
She’s four-months old and in the care of her grandparents. But the family of Kasandra Perkins, the girlfriend the football player killed, is seeking full custody of the child.
It’s about to get sticky.
“Personally, I don’t know why we would want to reward Jovan’s—the murderer’s — family with giving them the baby, but that’s not a legal argument,” lawyer Jon Michal Franks told ABCNews.com.
The baby was initially in the custody of Belcher’s mother, Cheryl Shepherd. But she alleges that the Perkins family tricked her and kept the baby since the funeral of their daughter.
“Cheryl agreed to temporarily allow the maternal relatives [to] take Zoey to Texas for her mother’s funeral,” Shepherd’s lawyer Gretchen M. Gold wrote in an email to the Jackson County, Mo., probate commissioner last week. “The maternal relatives have now ceased communicating with Cheryl Shepherd and have refused to return her calls or return the child to her care.”
Now the families are engaged in a heated custody battle, in two different states to boot. A court date is set for Jan. 22.

This is OLD news that we heard about THREE WEEKS AGO!
First off I would like to give my condolences to the greving parents of the deceased young adults. To many lives have been impacted here. And really no one has had time to heal properly.We all need to give thanks to God and hope and prey that the baby have A happy and safe journey in life for what’s ahead of her/him. We are in A society so wrapped up in money and power that we seem to forget about the well being and care of one another until we’ve become amune and lost our way of self respect and helping to find better ways of handling situations without lawyers and judges, instead chosing to sit down with our mothers and fathers,sisters and brothers,aunts and uncles,,preists, and deacons of the church. We all need JESUS. no man walking up or down can’t say other wise. So my advise to the family at this point is to let go and let GOD.I’m going to keep them all in preyer.
A MESS.. why black folks? Why do we continue in this matter when a incident of such SORROW happens so close to home?.. why would you take a BABY to the mother’s funeral..she’s not going to remember such a thing and THEN the maternal relatives NOT return the baby to the paternal guardians? WHY? Basically what the paternal relatives did was kidnapping..and should be charged as such..

I’ll say it, All these damn folks want is that damn money. Why wasn’t the girl and her baby living with her Mother before this tradgedy, because the deceased woman’s Mother was an unfit Mother when she was growing up and she stayed here and there. Now she want her grand-child because of all the money that comes with her. Some Black people are totally embarrassing, just sad and ridiculous.
