*Just when you thought “Happy Endings” star Damon Wayans Jr. was the youngest from the Wayans family to make a mark in Hollywood, here comes BET hoping to strike gold with Jr’s cousins.
Following Tuesday’s debut of “The Real Husbands of Hollywood” is “Second Generation Wayans,” a scripted comedy based on the lives of cousins Damien Dante Wayans and Craig Wayans – nephews of Keenen, Damon and Kim [KDK]. They’re joined by buddy George O. Gore, II, who played the son of Damon’s character on ABC’s “My Wife and Kids.”
Damien, whose mom is KDK’s sister Elvira Wayans, is an aspiring actor/director; while Craig, son of another KDK sister Diedre, wants to make it as a writer. After finding it difficult to score adult roles, George’s character transitions into producing, and is also a burgeoning real estate mogul who lives modestly.
Tatiyana Ali, last seen in TV One’s “Love That Girl,” found her way into the mix playing Damien’s personal assistant.
“The comedy comes out of their situations,” Ali told EURweb’s Lee Bailey at a BET cocktail party held during the TCA Winter Press Tour in Pasadena. “When you have L.A. and Hollywood as your backdrop, trying to business as young people – more specifically young people of color trying to get your foot in the door – we have a lot of funny stuff that happens. I feel like we pushed the envelope a little bit.”
Below, Ali explains how she ended up on the show.
“Second Generation Wayans” premieres Tuesday (Jan. 15) at 10:30 following the premiere of “The Real Husbands of Hollywood.” Watch promos of “Wayans” below.
