Beyonce in GQ’s Feb. Issue; Talks Influence, Super Bowl (Pics)

*Beyonce shows off her figure in this new shot from GQ‘s February 2012 issue, on newsstands January 15.

Inside, the 31-year-old mom and wife of Jay-Z discusessed the following:

On her work ethic: “I worked so hard during my childhood to meet this goal: By the time I was 30 years old, I could do what I want. I’ve reached that. I feel very fortunate to be in that position. But I’ve sacrificed a lot of things, and I’ve worked harder than probably anyone I know, at least in the music industry. So I just have to remind myself that I deserve it.”

On her upcoming performance at the Super Bowl: “One of the reasons I connect to the Super Bowl is that I approach my shows like an athlete. You know how they sit down and watch whoever they’re going to play and study themselves? That’s how I treat this. I watch my performances, and I wish I could just enjoy them, but I see the light that was late. I see, ‘Oh God, that hair did not work.’ Or ‘I should never do that again.’ I try to perfect myself. I want to grow, and I’m always eager for new information.”

On her influence: “I now know that, yes, I am powerful. I’m more powerful than my mind can even digest and understand.”

On loving her work: “I love my job, but it’s more than that: I need it. Because before I gave birth, it was the only time in my life, all throughout my life, that I was lost.”

  1. You would think that after giving birth to a DAUGHTER, she would tone this shit down…after my oldest daughter turned 21, I stopped going to night clubs…I wouldn’t be caught dead in a club with my daughter…OMG…image is everything and its like, what examples are you setting for your daughter and then your someone’s wife…Really??? IMO, when you have daughters, things just automatically change as a mother. You ask yourself, would I want my daughter to take these kind of pictures and you focus more on raising them to have self respect. Prime example, would Michelle Obama take these kind of photos and expect her daughters to think its OK…GEEEZ

I’m assuming that pics in GQ’s magazine were NOT intended for its female subscribers.

Fact: Michelle Obama allowed her daughters to attend Beyonce’s concert as she graced the state half-dressed. Me thinks the Obama’s can raise their own daughters…especially when they admit they’re allowed to watch reality shows like the kardashians.

Lesson: raise your own child and don’t hate because your body doesn’t look like B’s.

      • Disappointed in your arguments Musb. I thought the silly “you’re a hater” jabs were used only by people a lot less intelligent than you. Question: what is hating about objectively stating that a less than half-dressed woman whose shirt is open and butt sticking out looks trashy? Could someone not say that about any woman and mean it? What about the men who say this? I know some who say this, who concede she is attractive (like many women are btw), but who don’t like trashy. I can objectively state that I think this lady is intellectually vapid and has a disturbing need for attention in the aim that she will “sear her image in the mind of everyone” (I got that from saying from someone but thought it was so perfect so I’m using it, lol It just rings so true to me!) much like a god, yes I think she has a messiah complex and I don’t say that lightly. She seems to be regressing and imo it’s a sad sight. She represents a regressive culture. She gets more air time than most but doesn’t play instruments, “writes” silly songs, and masks her lack of imagination and creativity with near-nudity. An empty suit if you will, a lot of sound and fury but signifies nothing. (Reminds me of our current president, but I digress, lol). The mystique of yesteryear is missing and I think our culture is cheaper for it. Consider that even when she was a druggie singing about sleeping with a married man (Saving All My Love), Whitney Houston always presented herself with class, adorned in gowns and such attire. She didn’t go for the cheap look and I think that added to her success. There’s something to be said for not going the cheap route. Jmo

TGEN, you should go back and reread my post. At no point did I write it w/your approval or disapproval in mind. I don’t know you. So please don’t be that vested in your online life to the point where you have to express disapproval with something an online commenter does. You and everybody in the world make her a 2013 Garbage Pail Kid named, “Trashy Ashley from Cali” for all I care.

I can “objectively” state that I (unlike you) have never given much thought to the intellectual offerings of any celebrity..not one. So I would never even think about wracking my brain wondering whether someone has a messiah complex, is regressing, or has a need for attention. I just couldn’t. Not in a million years..not even for those I don’t like. I can’t conceive being preoccupied in the manner you are. But alas, go ahead. If it makes you feel better.

BTW, Whitney was adorned in gowns because standing still onstage and sing was ALL she could do. She didn’t have the energy and stage presence of Josephine or Tina..who were more captivating and entertaining performers…much like Beyonce. If you’re gonna put that much energy into analyzing someone, please have enough sense to compare an apple to an apple and not satsuma. It requires much less thought than your personal analysis.

I mean the pics are fine..if you are trying to be Rhianna. But Bey is supposed to be above that type of thing. I get it, she’s trying to prove a point but she could have had great photos that screamed sexy without going there. If she is truly legendary, it’s not necessary to do whatever else does to sell. I have a real problem with GQ. I get it, it’s a men’s magazine. However, any man that is on the cover is wearing Armani, Boateng etc and comes looking correct. Why is it that when a woman is on the cover, it can’t be classy sexy…they are always looking like the got the clothing from that year’s skank collection. I really wish Bey would have picked up on that and not fed into it. She’s not the bend over the car video girl and this almost puts her in that category. She doesn’t look bad. It just comes off as if she sort did what she had to to do to get another magazine cover. Also, the timing sort of isn’t great given that she’s singing at the Inauguration.

  3. I agree with both posts, Beyonce should of gone the CLASSY route and not do a racy skanky cover imitating Rihanna, Beyonce is far more talented than this.

  4. Grace12_34 says:

I never had any respect for Jay-Z, but I DID try to understand him. After seeing this, I understand who wears the pants in that family, because no real man is going to put up with this mess. Something like this would cause problems in a REAL marriage. Then again, they WERE on opposite sides of the country on New Year’s Eve.

    Just saying …

    • Grace, my point exactly. Bey at one point had a lot of class and you have to ask yourself, how much more does she want? You simply can’t put a price on self respect. Its automatic… You would think as a first time mother, she would have taken time off to enjoy the joys of motherhood and her baby…which makes me suspect if she really truly carried a child. There is no explaining the bond you develop as a child grows inside of you…I’m not saying she doesn’t love the kid but damn…I would kill either of my daughters if they did a photo shoot that would eventually shame them. She is her daughter’s first teacher. Case and point, Bobbi Kristina. I was floored when Whitney said, BK witnessed Bobby Brown spit in her face. That would have been it…I would have packed my shit and never looked back…I take great pride in knowing my kids whom are grown can never say, they’ve seen me drunk, high or in compromising positions with different men…I never dressed any a way that would send the wrong signals…I love being almost 47 and telling me, I look 25 or 30…

Unless you know something we don’t…seems like Blue Ivy can say the same about her mother..who happens to be entertainers.

I can imagine your shock and horror looking at old pics of the scantily-clad Josephine Baker. In fact, you likely thought Tina Turner was a slutbag.

Just face it. You’re HATER..which explains your exorcist head spinning logic that had you both suggesting that she didn’t birth a child AND don’t care bout the one she has…all at the same time.

  5. musbdherbs says:

Again, and who’s complaining again? Women right? Complaining about her pics in a men’s magazine right?

    Ya’ll heifers just hating..thas all. :)

    • The pics are on the edge but they are nice pics!

Her body is covered… her daughter is an infant.

Truthfully… Beyonce was doing alot of this on stage already!

I don’t necessarily agree… but she is married to a man that has shown very little respect to women in his lyrics!

  6. GoldenLady says:

I actually feel bad for Beyonce. She states that before she gave birth, it was the only time she was lost in life. If it means she was lost before she gave birth b/c she wasn’t working, I feel sorry for her for not relishing in the miracle of becoming a mother. And for not falling back to enjoy the precious, incredible moments of that little baby girl. They pass by so quickly! If she only identifies with and finds worth and value in being a performer, then no wonder she’s nearly naked! When she covers up and goes away to normalcy (like most women), she must feel invisible and invaluable, and thus we get to see her like this. She looks great, but I think it’s sad.
