*Beyoncé has been chosen to belt the National Anthem during President Obama’s second inauguration on January 21 in Washington.
According to USA Today, Beyoncé will take the stage at the West Front of the U.S. Capitol, and will be joined by Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor during the event.
Clarkson will sing “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee,” which soul icon Aretha Franklin memorably sang at Obama’s first inauguration while wearing an oversized hat. Taylor has been tapped to sing “America the Beautiful.”
More announcements about the entertainment for the more low-key second inauguration will be announced in the upcoming days.
Beyoncé’s sang the Etta James classic “At Last” for the Obamas’ first dance during the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball at the 2009 inauguration. An estimated 1.8 million people packed the National Mall to watch the first inauguration, but in light of the tough economic times, the second celebration will be smaller, with only two official balls.

well who is THAT ?!?!
I don’t know if this ran across anybody else’s mind, but I often wonder if that was one of Whitney Houstons troubles and that was she wasn’t able to perform at President Obamas first inaugural. She never spoke about Obama, but it would’ve been special to see her sing to Michelle and Barack’s first dance in her prime voice much like she did for the national anthem and her many other excellent performances.
princefan? are you high? I mean really, Whitney couldn’t f’n’ hum when Barry was inaugurated.
SMH
I remember Beyonce sang the national anthem at the super bowl back in 2004 and she did a good job, who knew??? she is not a powerhosue singer but she seems to give 100% hopefully she will do a good job this time around. Good for her!!
Dude, Whitney’s voice was broke back in 2003 — by 2008 drugs and smoke had fully ravaged her voice to the point that a live performance would have been embarrassing for Black America on the whole as our princess has fallen from grace.
nightshift I was ready to cuss you out, but I reread you comment. again. No I am not high, but Whitney was. What I meant was it would’ve been nice to see there singing if her voice was what it was back then! When she was THE VOICE. I ain’t talkin’ about when her voice diminished. I’m fully aware of that and so was Whitney. She had sang in the past for a president, but what would’ve made even more special would’ve been for the first black president. I thought about Michael Jackson too.
I was hoping Gladys Knight would be singing this time around…….:(
I would have liked Mariah Carey.
