*”Django Unchained,” Quentin Tarantino’s slave saga, a Best Picture Oscar nominee, brought in a very strong $42.9 million over the weekend and is proving an international hit. That was the best of any U.S. film at the foreign box office and comes on the heels of its $48 million international debut last weekend. It launched No. 1 in Australia ($.4.2 million) and New Zealand, and held the top spots for a second week in Germany ($8.1 million, $21 million total) and France ($6.6 million, $16.4 million), and was No. 2 in the U.K. ($3.8 million. $11.5 million). With the $146 million “Django” has made in the U.S., where it is distributed by the Weinstein Company, its worldwide total is now $261 million.
*Rapper Lil’ Kim tweeted news to fans on Jan. 25: “Due to shed conflicts I will not be attending Providence Night Club tonight, Jan 25th. I will be in the studio finishing up my new album!!” It’s been two years since she released her Black Friday mixtape, which followed 2005’s The Naked Truth. In September 2012, Lil’ Kim revealed that she was working on the new album with an unlikely collaborator, Kelly Osbourne, on a song titled “The Bitch Is Back.” Earlier this week, Lil’ Kim was spotted filming a new music video for her song “Jay-Z” in Queens, New York. She was reportedly joined with guests French Montana, Tony Testa, Tiffany Foxx and “Mob Wives” star Carla Facciolo.
*”The Young and the Restless” star Julia Pace Mitchell is pregnant! The 27-year-old actress and her husband Stephen L. Hightower are expecting a baby together in May. The couple is having a son and they plan to name him Stephen L. Hightower III. “I feel so blessed and hopeful about becoming a mommy for the first time,” Mitchell said in a statement to People magazine. Though the mom-to-be will be a first time mother in real life, the actress’s character Sofia Winters did have an onscreen pregnancy on CBS’s “The Young and the Restless.” Pace Mitchell and her businessman husband have been married since September 2011.
