* Music and mentorship join hands as Eve makes her return to rap. The Philly-bred rapper will be connecting with youth mentoring organization Big Brothers Big Sisters, in honor of National Mentoring Month. As part of a fundraising push and recruitment drive for the organization, Eve will be releasing her new single, “Make it Out this Town.” The rapper/actor will be making an announcement and releasing the single on Tuesday (January 22) at Marriot Mayflower Renaissance hotel in DC. Eve’s forthcoming album, Lip Lock, is scheduled for an April release.
* The legendary Janet Jackson will be honored at this year’s amfAR (The Foundation for AIDS Research) gala for her contributions to the fight against AIDS. The black-tie event will also honor Kenneth Cole and Heidi Klum. It’s set for Wednesday, February 6, the day before New York Fashion Week. Tickets for the event range from $1,500 to $75,000.
* Rapper turned actor, Common, is gushing about his new role in the indie flick LUV (Learning Uncle Vincent). HipHollywood caught up with the Chicago native about the role, which he calls his most challenging so far, and also with his adorable co-star Michael Rainey Jr. who is earning lots of praise for his powerful performance. In the film Common plays Vincent, an ex-con who is trying to turn his life around but is sidelined when his past catches up with him.
