*A teenage girl who performed at President Obama’s inauguration with her high school band earlier this month was shot to death Tuesday afternoon at a Chicago park, CBS Chicago reports.
Police said 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was taking shelter from the rain under a canopy at the park with about 12 other teenagers when a man jumped a fence, ran up to them and opened fire. The gunman then fled the scene in an automobile.
Hadiya was shot once in the back and died at University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital less than an hour later, CBS Chicago reports. An unidentified teenage boy was shot in the leg and is being treated at the hospital.
No arrests have been made.
Hadiya was an honor student, volleyball player and majorette at King College Prep High School, according to CBS Chicago. She performed with her high school band at the presidential inauguration in Washington last week.
Police said Hadiya had no gang affiliation and likely was not targeted in the shooting attack. However, several of the teens who were with her at the time were believed to be gang members, CBS Chicago reports.
OH NO!! how what a tragedy, another young life has been taken due to the still escalating violence in Chicago, now the violence in this country is an issue that needs Pres Obama’s utmost attention and in his hometown no less, I pray he and congress and the other elected official across the USA can come together and so something about this.

You know….I reeeeeally hate it when they just “haaaaaaave to” insinuate “gangs” into the mix, when Blacks are victims of violence! So now?, to dampen/discard/disrespect what happened to this young girl’s life, they “throw gangs in”, so SHE doesn’t get the press she would, if she were a White young girl, shot in a….”vanilla suburb”. Now the fact that girl was at the inauguration?, should SURELY!!!!!, be as important! The unfortunate irony of the gun control issue & this happening, just days later!!!??? SMGDH!!!! I agree, let’s focus on using the correct language when a black person is killed by a gun and not the fact that another black person was murdered by their own. Yes, let’s make this racial so you feel better.

FYI – This story IS getting a lot of press. Here in New York the story was reported on NBC news along with the story of the mother who lost her fourth child to gun violence this month.

Ok….good to know that it IS getting some “traction” in the media! Usually?, in stories/mishaps/murder etc…?, it AIN’T the case, & anyone who doesn’t live a “bubble”?, knoooooows that!
